Wheels...which ones?

ok, but one reason i want the wider wheel is for handling advantages, not just strait line. Thanks for the info though, I might use that if I find some wheels I absolutely love, but only come in 17x8.5. lol BTW what do you think of the choices I posted? And any others to add? Thanks man
 
When you say "powdercoated black in the center", do you mean the entire wheel surface inside of the rim? (Basically a black wheel with chrome lip)

ya, well polished lip, but ya, like the current ones.
 
But I see where you were confused, and that would be questionable, based on the wheel, how far out I would powder coat.

I know, one thing that is holding me back though, is the price ($465each). I would probably run them non coated for a while and see how I like it, but with my whole black paint scheme, I dont know if I could go back to the non black wheels, it just looks too good together. IMO
 
I don't know. I just get this memory popping into my head of this guy that my friend used to work with, that painted a ring around his steelies with chrome spray paint. Everytime I see a car with wheels that are black w/ a chrome or polished lip, I think of that guy.

I really like shiny wheels, so if it were me, I'd get silver painted alloys, or chrome ones. But of course it's your car, and your call.

I would have never guessed you were a shiny wheel guy. lol I'm opposite basically for the same reason, but way more people. Most people around me (bay area California) that get aftermarket wheels, get at least 20s whether its a car, truck or SUV and they have to be chrome and flashy. Not my thing at all, I guess I do the complete opposite because of them.
 
Yeah see you live in Cali, where the $$$ is. People buy enormous chrome wheels that cost gobs of money.

Around here, people generally don't have a lot of money. People buy things just to be able to say their car "isn't stock". Whether that means buying an unpainted body kit, removing their wheel covers, or getting spinner wheel covers, it doesn't matter. A few of the trends I recall from last year (before I transferred to the center of the state):



Modified cars running steelies w/ no wheel covers

Same cars running skinny steelies in the front, and wide aftermarket 17s/18s on the rears :rolleyes:

3 aftermarket wheels and a doughnut on the FRONT WHEEL! These were all on FWD vehicles, and you might say that they just bent a rim, but there were 3 of them at one time at my school, and they were all on Hondas owned by a group of friends.



And then there was the Jetta with the huge aluminum wing, dual exhaust with two completely different mufflers (different size, shape, everything), mismatched body kit, black steelies, and covered in primer on only a couple panels. The rest of the car was the most dull yellow I've ever seen, with silver flames on the front. (I need a vomiting smilie to insert here)



So yeah, black wheels aren't my thing.



But if you're one of the few in your area that have them, more power to you. I like to be different, rather than following the trends that everyone else is.

LOL, we have some of that here. I like the FWD cars with the wider tires in the rear. lol I should get some wider tires in the front, huh, that would make perfect sense. lol People are stupid.
 
I can speak first-hand as to the AR 200S you're looking at. My buddy has a set on his '99 Z28, with 17x9.5 on all four corners. The handling really isn't improved much if at all over the stock 16s that came on the car. Also, they stick about 1/2" out of the wheel wells and are always slinging road debris/dirt up onto the paint (introducing scratches, swirls, chips, etc.) so they aren't exactly my favorite pick.



I guess the point is, if you insist on wider wheels, make sure the backspacing doesn't make them go beyond the "tuck" into the wheel well or you'll have a mess.

Shiny: Thanks a lot, that definetly helps, your right, that offset is horrible. I will definetly check on that before I buy wheels. I like the offset I have now and will have to find out what that is (I dont remember). Oh ya and as for handling, the wider the tire the more that is in contact with the ground which means more grip, you do need a suspension to go with it though and I already have that. ;)

I was just letting you know that at 9 inches wide, you will be able to fit your tires. I like the billet that you posted, but I dont think I would powdercoat billet. It's just too pretty. PITA to polish, but it's just awesome. I think that if you do want to go with a powder coated center and polished lip that it may be worth your while to check out Budnik's fat lip series. Just an example:

True. I keep telling him he needs an STB and SFCs for it, at bare minimum. There's a LOT of body flex as it sits now, it's scary to go fast around corners with it. And on top of that, it's even a hardtop car (no t-tops) so it should be automatically more rigid to a certain extent!
