Wheel Stains Help!

Ok so I have some pretty severe black stains on one of my wheels, on the inside (barrel) of the wheel.

I had the wheel re-painted, and I suspect they didn't bother to clear the barrel and only did the face of the wheel so that has allowed break dust (I assume) to get embedded into the paint.

I have tried Chemical Guys Diablo Wheel Gel and it did NOTHING.

I've been reading on here about this "Iron-X" and "Griots Wheel Cleaner" would those be something that could tackle this stain?

I plan on cleaning the stain and then clearing the barrel myself with some hi-temp clear coat.

Thanks for any help.

If you could identify the 'black stain' it would help us make a recommendation to remove it, failing that a photograph might help

The Griot's will be too gentle and the Iron-X isn't really made for that. Yeah, get some aggressive acidic stuff, just use reasonable care. But if the dust is embedded in/under the paint you'll have to get it refinished if you really want to care that much.

And yeah, refinishing shops tend to do a crappy job on the barrels/back side unless you have a talk with 'em before they do the work. Sometimes they even do a crappy job when you've explained what you want

I wouldn't use acid if your rims are painted. Even though it's on the inside where the rim is not painted...you may over spray it on to the rim, and if you don't catch it in time...you'll have more damage.

I would use Sonax Full Effect. You can let it dwell, and if it gets on the painted part of the rim, it will do no harm.

You may be left with your only option being to refinish the inside of the rim if you want perfection. IF you want to get more aggressive, you could buy some scuff pads and gently agitate the breakdust after the Sonax sits for a few minutes. You may be able to break it up without actually damaging the rim. That's a last resort though.

For really tough stains (i.e. the rear back of the wheels) use CarPro Iron X Paste and a white Scotch-Brite™ pad, allow the gel to dwell and then agitate with the pad, may require more than one application. Being a gel allows the product to remain in place and work for longer than a liquid cleaner
