What's up with MEGs buffing pads

I was using a megs white buffing pad with some different products experimenting with what would take the swirls and scratches out of my friends new black crossfire. Well after using some AOI and then 3m FI. I then put some NXT in it and after a few minutes the pad separated from the velcro piece. I didn't think much about it as this pad had been washed 1x or 2x and thought that was the problem. So I take a brand new pad out of the pkg. put some NXT in it and after about 10 minutes the pad again separates from the velcro layer. HUH???? It sure seems that whatever is in the NXT dissolved the glue. Well no problem with megs, they were great said they'd send 2 new pads ASAP. The tech says I used too much product and not to wash the pads just wet them or put new product into it. I don't get it? I have been washing them by hand for a few years and never had a problem. Any thoughts here ???? Thanks everybody, I always got compliments on my vette when I had it and now on my PT cruiser. It's all due to all the great things I learn from everybody here.

Meg's has had some, uhm, issues with their pads doing that when they're used with PCs (as opposed to rotaries). I gather that some production runs have MORE issues than others so maybe that's why you're only now having the problem. Or maybe the NXT exacerbates the problem. It can't be something that *always* happens, as Mike Phillips uses those to apply NXT all the time.

I myself use other pads with the PC and reserve my Meg's pads for the rotary.

Thanks! That explains why the megs rep didn't even flinch when I described the situation and said he would send 2 new ones. What about the washing though, YES or NO ??????

What backing plate are you using?

The W-64DA is horrible in my experience. I know there was an issue with it and Meguiar's have indicated that they have reworked it (new Velcro I believe) but ever since I got my 3M one. I've never looked back.

Man, I have been thinking about getting a few more but maybe I'll hold off. I got the 6 I have a long time ago, and they have held up incredibly. I wash them after every use, and have even machine washed them on gentle a couple of times. :nixweiss
