What's the best store bought wheel cleaner?

I used to buy Espree's Wheel Magic. I used to be able to get this for a reasonable price at Trak Auto (before they closed) and it did reasonably well for a "mild" wheel cleaner.

Most of the wheel cleaners I see in the stores have acid in them, AutoZone near my old residence in Brooklyn had all acid wheel cleaners, non that were non-acidic. I read all the back labels, caution contains acid, 2% hydrofluric or oxalyic something.

For store bought, like NAPA auto supply, try Meguiars #36, very good cleaner, a little milder than EF HI and only for wheels.

PS simple green in an aerosol spray can is out! It foams....

I'm the Joe that works at EO. hehe, too many Joe's in the world. Anyway, here's some more words of advice on wheel cleaners. They can be either acid or alkaline based. Of course Acid is more harmful than alkaline, but that does not mean it cleans better. When looking at wheel cleaners that you want to use, find out if they are acid or alkaline. Alkaline based cleaners have less chance of doing damage, and in general are all around safer. This is not saying that it is impossible for damage to occur, but it is significantly less likely. Umm, that's it, i think, still not enough coffee and it's almost lunch.

Meguiars works very closely(not sure exactly what takes place) with a good amount of the maJor car manufacturers, Do you guys work with car manufacturers?

I saw the other day the Turtle Wax 2001 Foaming wheel cleaner is also non-acidic. It is in a neon green bottle.

Anyone comment on this one. It is very cheap and widely available at Kmart/Walmart/Target.

To answer this question, almost all companies work with car and wheel makers when designing wheel cleaning products. The problems are that we cannot control what some people put their wheels through or what they may have previously used to clean wheels. If a person has let brake dust sit on their wheels for an extended time or they have used something way to strong, then the wheels finish is already weaker.
