I like both products as well. SSR1 smells a lot better than VM, but that isn't what you're asking, LOL.
I believe SSR1 has a bit more cut than VM, but VM does have some fillers that may temporarily improve light scratches.
Personally I would try SSR1 and move to something more aggressive if you need it.
You could then use either VM or SSR1 to remove any marring and to leave your surface ready for your LSP. I haven't used either product with EX (I typically use PwC with EX) but have used both with EX-P and Pinnacle Signature. A lot of people have expressed concern about durability with VM as a base, but I typically don't leave anything on too long. Right now I'm at 3 months with VM + EX-Px2 + EX-P+.
I don't think you can go wrong with either VM or SSR1 as a prep to your LSP...just not sure if they'll take care of your scratches.
