Yes, you'll still need a good pre-treatment, but incorporating a dedicated carpet shampoo really makes a difference *for me*. You're basically applying a thick layer of wet foam all over the carpet and as your scrub it into the fibers it lifts the soiling up to the surface and easily vacuumes away and dries rather quickly. Many people use APC mixed with water in a bucket to "shampoo", but it doesn't nearly have the same effect due to the foam action.

If you click on the "Usage & Tips" tabs they offer similar advice.

FWIW - That is our process as well. The only difference is that we use a combination of Megs APC+ and a citrus based solvent as a pre-treater. IME it works the same as if I was using a TLC pre-spray.

I'm expecting to do a pretty intense detail on two Mazdas in the coming weeks. I'll be sure to thoroughly test HD Total on them head-to-head with OPC.

RaskyR1- How well does that Rust Away work?

haven't had a chance to use it yet....I've only used the red relief which worked very well on a large red juice spill.

If you do use the Rust Away, I'd like to know how well it works. Noting that there are "rust stains" and then there are "*RUST STAINS*"....

Will do Accumulator. I typically try not to take on interiors, but ever since I've picked up this kit I've secretly been waiting for a challenging interior come to in. :D

Biokleen TLC

Biokleen Bac Out

Folex

Meg's APC+

7 in 1 carpet shampoo

Biokleen carpet and rug shampoo

Bissel LGM

I've really been eyeballing a durmaid 1500 lately. I'd really love a small "good" extractor.

Removing stains can be difficult due to the natural tannin in coffee. As well as the hot coffee when spilled opens the microscopic dye sites in the fiber causing them to burn or absorb the tannin permanently staining the fibers. Often, coffee stains must be removed at elevated temperatures close to the temp at which they entered the fiber to remove them. Remember using a high level pH cleaner will set a stain."

Thats why better carpet cleaners are PH'ed to 8 or 9. APC's are often 14.

So can heat, set stains.

Solvents also can set sugar stains.
