What's in the bottle? Who cares?

A comment on another forum recently brought this question to mind.
The comment was that lots of people have no interest in what makes up the products we use and are only concerned with the performance. The person making that comment was taking a slam at people that think that way.
After giving it some thought, I think I definitely belong in that category. What's in the product doesn't really interest me at all. How the product works does.
What's in it is for the manufacturer to be concerned about. What kind of job it does is my concern.
Am I the only stupid one that feels that way?

I really am not too concerned with what's in the bottle either. I like to know if there are helpful agents like the biocides Poorboys use in some of their products, but I couldn't care less about the composition of the rest of it. As long as I know how and when to use it and how it works, I'm good to go.
 
Very true, I don't really mind whats in a product as long as it doesn't hurt anything- like strong acids in wheel cleaners without knowing it. However, when it comes to wax, it doesn't matter to me. I'm not sure if I can say that "wax is wax" because there are definitely variations between Turtle Wax and Natty's or Souveran but if I am happy with the results and price, that's fine with me.
 
I rememebr when everyone was getting all upset over the "does this product contain petroleum distillates" debate. Seems like a lot of people were interested in what was in the bottle then. I am concerned somewhat. I wouldn't want to use something harmful, but then again, I don't really believe that I am qualified to make decisions as to what is and what is not harmful. All I can go by is what the manufacturer says, and trust that they aren't pulling one over on us.

To answer the original question, I am far more concerned with the performance of the product than what is in it.

The government with VOC content laws has basically taken over that decision. If it's harmful to the environment it probably won't be made by any of the large raw material suppliers. :)
 
As long as it doesn't contain sodium, alcohol, ammonia, alkalines, acids or phosphate's, is VOC free and either non petroleum or very low percentage, then I'm happy
Though it must work too.
 
Chemistry was never my strong suit. So, I don't know enough to write off entire product lines because of an ingredient or two.
 
I don't really care. I take a look at the label get an idea of what i can and can't do with the product and go from there.
 
Show me the results; I don't care what's inside. The results, especially long term, speak for themselves.
