What's best way to clean and maintain unwaxed/non-clear coated polished wheels?

I have a set of polished forged aluminum wheels that I polished a while ago. I didn't put any wax or clear coat on them when I got tires mounted on them. Well, I got a little busy and didn't wash the wheels as often as I wanted to and now there is break dust that seems embedded on the wheels (the front wheels are the worse).

I tried cleaning them with car wash soap and even wheel cleaning formula, but that stuff doesn't seem to want to come off.

What would you gurus suggest?

Thanks,

-Nick

I've used Eagle One Aluminum Wash & Cleaner w/ good results. Spray, let soak and most importantly, use a quality soft bristled brush to agitate. Rinse w/ a direct stream of water and repeat if necessary.

A great solution for wheels that haven't been waxed is to wax them. A Premium Canauba wax will add greater depth to the shine of your entire vehicle. Depending on how you planned to protect them, a cleaner may get the dirt off but does not offer the weeks of protection that a sealant of a wax would provide.

I have polished lip M-parallels on my 5 series and I use Eagle one metal polish (the one with the wadding, it seems to have pretty good cleaning power). I buff again with blue magic to a shine, then you can put any sort of wax on.

If you're gonna spend a lot of money on some expensive polished wheels, go the extra yard and buy some Zoop Seal for them. It will pay for itself in convenience.

I wax my wheels with collinite 476S. I just use the applicator that is soaked with wax after finishing the car to wax the wheels as well. I don't wipe off the wax as I am lazy. It'll come off with the next car wash anyway and I seem to get a good 3 months of protection out of collinite. The brake dust has a hard time sticking to the wheels. Just a rinse is usually enough to get rid of most of the dust.

Tell me how Zoop Seal has worked for you.....?

I can't find very many who have used the product and recommend it......( using the search window here......)

Never said it worked for me, but it has worked for, and is sworn by, various people that are running some insanely expensive iForged, Bogart, Budnik, CCW, etc wheels on LS1TECH - Powered by vBulletin for a couple years now. Here are just a couple people's opinions here...

Zoop seal Y or N - LS1TECH

polished aluminum wheel coatings? - LS1TECH

I'm not saying it's the end-all be-all of things but from what I've heard, it's worth the money. Mother's polishes (such as Billet) are excellent as well but may not last as long, and as with any product, it'll have its good and bad reviews.
