what's a good inexpensive clay?

Here's a good cross-section of clays:

In that example Mike the Mother's California Gold is by far the worst deal. Same size clay as Claymagic so you really are paying $7 extra for a cheesy cleaner wax.

Last time I looked at the auto parts store, the Clay magic bar is actually bigger than the Mothers bar. It was something like 400g for the Claymagic and 200g for the Mothers. This was for the kits with lube included. May not still be the case.

I think the ClayMagic bar is just 200 grams now. Plenty to last a while but not as much as the "bulk" size of 400 grams they sell in PBE shops which ironically is more than two $10 kits. I started a whole thread of the weirdly expensive bulk pricing of clay products. :(

I think you guys are getting your grams mixed up. A 4 oz bar is 113.5 grams. The Clay Magic bars are 100g in the small size packed with the lube, or 200g in the "professional" size in the plastic soap box. There are many clays available as 8 oz (227g), but I have never heard or seen of a bar that is 400g.

Edit: Oh, and the Sonus SFX (green) and the new Meg's are 85g bars.

I've been wondering this very same thing. I'll probably end up with the Sonus clay (two blocks), just in case either of the cars are badly contaminated.

I can already see myself dropping the clay :hairpull
