What would it take to improve this mess 56K NONO

Grap some sand paper while you at it. I think it will make your job go much faster. With the looks of the top I'd say start with a quick 800 then move to finer grits. You may be able to make it shiny but the original color may be burned under the gelcoat.
 
( Anyone notice that no one read out of my post that its not a gelcoat finish?) LMAO!



Also, I would never use good pads on that piece.
 
I agree with Brad. Your arm will look like a lobster if you try it remove it by hand. You will most likely have to wetsand it, if you can't compond it out.

probably because it's been out in the elements and it's 22 years old and hasn't been taken care of.





I just helped detail a 10 year old vette that had been sitting outside for the last 8 years. The car just ATE up polish. It was unreal. Even once I got down to my final waxing it was literally EATING up the wax. Washing the car had the same results.
 
I wonder if you put something like #81 on a small patch first then polished it if it would work any better? #81 soaks in anyway, so maybe if you put it on first, it wouldnt take so much of the AIO or MPPC or whatever you wanted to try next. Never tried doing this, just an idea that hit me.

If I were you I'd call Pat Huber at Protect All (I dealt with him--great guy), and ask him to look at the boat pictures and tell you whether his stuff would work -- he'll give you the straight goods, I'm sure.

What I did was email email him some pictures, and asked him if he has any products that wouldn't be completely soaked up and dispursed by the fiberglass.
