i bought 1 flex da, 1 pc da, broke them both, never replaced them. that was a few years ago. im a rotary man till the end but i secretly want to pick up a da just for the light swirls, 1 step polishing jobs. i have said this for many years now but still refuse to give up the rotary. i trust the rotary, its all i really know.
i think the flex da is the best at those types of machines but i dont have much luck with flex. i did like that machine alot. maybe i should give that a second chance. hmmmmm...

Right now I'm using a G110V2, but as soon as I win that Flex pad washing bucket I plan on buying and using a Flex 3401 quite a bit. Hey, wouldn't be proper to place any ol' DA in there would it?

I have used my PcXP for about 3 years now and it has always done good for me. That said I am beginning to use my Flex 3401 more often as I like the power and control. I am also currently teaching myself to use a rotary. I like how quite they are and the lack of vibration.

in the end I think it comes down to picking the right tool for the job and trying to use the least aggressive method.

I was full rotary until a few years ago. With the MF pads I find myself rarely using it. Especially when I've been getting some unknown paint thickness restorations. Always will have a rotary on hand. Would love to take the new Flex for a spin.

I use a rotary 90% of the time.
If there is a need for a one step on a black car, or very thin paint, the Flex 3401 comes out to play.

DeWalt DWP849X- because it represents the winning combination of benefits:
  • Slow start speed trigger
  • Variable speed dial settings starting as low as 600 RPM
  • Light weight
  • Relatively quiet for a buffer
To me, this buffer represents the winning combination with a lower speed setting that is ideal for a true newbies that are just learning, or an experienced veteran who prefers lower polishing speeds like myself, for optimum finish polishing. Heavy duty construction for heavy duty polishing jobs like gel coat/fiberglass oxidation removal, or removing sanding marks.

I am and will always be correcting with either my Makita 9227C or Flex PE14-250 Rotary Power machines.
I want the best quality correction fast with the least aggressive product and have the option to vary the pad aggressiveness up or down to get the best finish at the same time.

I dont swirl the paint or leave holograms, buffer trails etc., so I dont have to deal with that.

I might break out my Flex 3401VRG to apply a Sealant quickly, or use my Meguiars G110v2 on front or back panels that are really small or risky to get a Rotary pad down there.

My Rotary's also start slow at 600rpm, so very, very, easy to use, I never use really high speeds either because I just dont need them. I also like that they are way quieter than most Random Orbitals and have way less vibration - almost none.

The Makita 9227C is also a great work out for your hands, arms, and shoulders because its heavy - but only until you get strong enough - :)

I do not use a machine polisher. I am told that you get the best results using a machine polisher, but honestly I am afraid of doing damage to my car with one. I am not in the detailing business, just a 67 year old retire who loves cars. I have a 2011 Mazda CX7 in brilliant black. Have used carnauba paste wax. Recently tried Ardex Nano Sealant, thought product did a good job, difficult to apply. Had been using Pinnacle products, very good results, extremely expensive. My son has a 2011 Porsche Cayenne in dark blue, uses Lucas Slick Mist weekly after washing. Cayenne has great shine. Son also has 2010 Acura MDX in black, Slick Mist weekly keeps it looking good too. Son is in Florida, I am in Philadelphia. My wife drives a 2001 Toyota Highlander with only 40,000 original miles. Highlander is white, clay bar yearly, by hand and wax monthly when weather permits. Highlander looks brand new.

You would have to sit on an orbital with foam pad in one place to do any damage. I am retired and 62....do yourself a favor and get an orbital and good pads...it's better than "by hand".
