What to use to apply rubbing compound

I would like to know what the rest of you have used in the past to apply rubbing compound (i have the 3M perfect it III) by hand or using an orbital. Which worked the best?



i have the option using by hand or orbital: terrycloth, MF and wool



this is for a paint scratch repair job, which i plan to wetsand and then use rubbing compound.

Now to the point- if choosing between by-hand and a waxmaster-style orbital (*not* a PC), I'd use the 05933 by hand. First with cotton then with MF. I've used 05933 by hand plenty of times, and it works well, even on hard paint. I'd rather use it with a Cyclo/PC/rotary, but it's not absolutely necessary to have a machine most of the time. You might well have to follow up with a milder product though. Use that with MF or foam.
