What to use on this classic American Muscle Car?

'64 Impala 409 convertible, triple black. It's from the B-J auction. It is a recent repaint, single stage, a nice paint job with a couple dust specks, but nothing serious. I'm pretty sure it's modern paint. It has the typical marring from improper washing and waxing.

I'm not going to get all radical on it, I've only been asked to wax it.

I have a couple different ways I'm thinking about it.

1) Since I'm not going to get out even the PC on this guy's $58000 toy, I'm thinking, Meg's #6. The cleaner wax will address the swirls without any risk of damage. And, it's a classic choice for a classic car. That's it; #6.

2) A classic combo: #7 and either #16, or Mother's California Gold Carnauba, or maybe Souveran Paste. Figuring, this is the kind of treatment it would have gotten in '64, a glaze and a carnauba. The glaze will fill, the carnauba will seal.

3) the modern stuff: NXT, ColorX, AIO/SG, stuff like that. The only thing with the polymers, this car is NEVER going to be outside, except maybe for parades and shows. Protection from the elements is almost meaningless.

If it's going to stay in the garage, never to be subjected to real world weather, I'd do a SMR and a glaze and stop there.

Mosca- Is #6 abrasive? I can't remember, but I don't THINK it is...I'd use some light abrasive like the SFP, #9, maybe even Speed Glaze, etc. to do a BIT of abrasive polishing, just enough to round the swirls a little. It'd make a big difference on black.

Then yeah, I too would use a "classic combo", like #7/#16. Even though it's a garage-queen toy, *I* would use a wax that'll last a while so the owner doesn't come back (or worse yet, NOT come back ;) ) with "why did the wax disappear after one wash". People are always impressed by #16.

I was looking at it again today. That sonofagun is as big as a Tahoe. I'm doing it by hand, no PC. How is #9 by hand? Should I work it for a long time, or will it be OK to use it like #7, rub rub rub remove?

Let the owner know that you will need to take the car on an extended test drive to make sure the wax stays on when you open all four barrels on that 409. ;)

BTW, we had better get pics!

I used #9 by hand on a 99 Siverado with a hard tonneau.. took a while but it worked and you might be ok with the #16 over the #9 ..

Tom,

Good choice.

I didn't do it today, I wasn't up to it (health problems). It's in our showroom though for another month, I'll do it next week.
