what to get?

So after reading some of the archives, I've discovered that the "3M Hand glaze" I'd bought last year is actually a polish - who knew??!

So now I need to find a cleaner, sealant, and a real glaze. I've hear Pinnacle PaintWorkds Cleaner lotion, P21S Paitingwork Cleanser or 3m Perfect-It are all good cleaners and Klasse makes a good sealant and glaze.

Are these products normally sold at autoshops? If not, what are good autoshop alternatives? I haven't converted to zaino or other really high end products so the porfessional stuff isn't as important to me.

Btw, this is all for my 10 year old daily driver that sits outside - is this just overkill? If I were to skips some steps after washing, claying, and polishing but before waxing, what would it be?

Only clay if the paint has contaminates.

What you do depends on what you want the car to look like. If you do not want swirls then you will need some sort of abrasive product like 3M SMR or other brand.

If you want a product that lasts and provide the most protection then I say look into and search for some polymers like Blackfire, Klasse, or Zaino. These products should last a few months or more which is longer than a wax. I think in the long run these polymers save you money because you do not use very much and they last such a long time.

Body shop supply stores carry lots of good products; 3m & meguiars to name a few.

Only you can decide if it is overkill.

I think that glazes and polishes are the same thing in most regards. Glazes are used by bodyshops after painting a vehicle to afford a small form of protection, while still allowing the paint to cure. In other words, they do not seal the finish. Meguiars #7 Show Car Glaze is a pure polish also. The 3M you have will work fine. Finish it off with your fav. wax and enjoy.

Sealents or polymers are not designed to work with any polish or glaze, they stand alone. Zaino and Klasse(sp?) are the big boys here.

It's never been clayed before and does feel a little rough. I've glazed/polished before with the 3M stuff and it made the paint feel smoother, but I still had some nasty stuff in the paint.

Thanks for the advice, I think I'll seal it in and not worry about the swirl marks. It's a white car so it shouldn't show up as badly I hope.

If it feels bumpy then I suggest claying for sure.

I did not read you will leave swirls in the paint. Like Shultz from Hogan's Hero's "I SEE NOTHING....I SEE NOTHING" lol

Well, I think it comes down to a choice between that and my GF killing me. She already calls the car my "wife" and I figure once I cross that line between spending more time with the car then with her...well, let's just say I'll have a lot more time to read this forum.

I had a girlfriend one time tell me she thought that if I could have sex with my car I wouldn't need her.

That girl could read me like a book ;)
