What to do with power antenna?

Autopia gurus, I want to know how I can clean and lube my power antenna. It sometimes makes a squawk at the bottom of the travel when it's retracting. Should I just clean with WD40 and call it good, or is there some kind of grease I can apply to keep everything smooth and quiet?

wd40 works for me. i clean it all the time with this stuff, never had any problems. every so often i polish the ant. with metal polish and then lube it with wd40.

My power antenna is 3 years old and I've been using WD40 for

about two of them but I am now getting black grease

on the antenna everytime it goes up, even after a cleaning.

Does WD40 weaken seals or anything like that? It does have a solvent type smell to it.

Maybe 3 in 1 or Mystery Marvel Oil, Etc might be a better choice.

Hmm...I did notice the black grease on my brother's 4Runner when he still had it. But I think that's from grease that the dealer put on when he had it serviced. My car is a '97 (I am second owner) and I have had it for 2 years, and the antenna is squeaky clean. It just makes an annoying squawk once in a while. Are you sure it's only been WD40 on there? WD40 does have solvents, but I have never known it to break down seals. As a matter of fact, I use it regularly to clean the O-ring chain on my motorcycle, and the chain is 6 years old, and I have never had any problems.:nixweiss
