What To Charge??

Hey guys, I am new to the site. I worked for Carmax for over a year and now want to do detailing in my town as a side source for cash. I have my own Dewalt buffer and have a good hookup with P&S (pssales.com) detailing supplies. I only want to do full exterior details (wash, claybar, compound/polish) and maybe a vacuum of the interior. I dont want to get into engine bays or full interiors. So what would be a fair price for an exerior detail with vacuum? I was thinking about having a price for cars and a price for tucks/minivans/suv's.



And how much to charge for just a wash/tires/vacuum job? Thanks for any input you can provide. I have a lot of experience detailing so I figure I should put it to use.
 
I can't answer your question at all. But, having watched the Pro Detailers forum over the past year, questions like this seem to get asked a lot. While waiting for other professionals to reply, have you tried reading thru the past questions in this forrum?
 
Any particular reason you don't want to do interior cleaning? Personally it is my least favorite part but, seems you might be limiting your market. If it were me I would hate to have spent good money on having the outside of my car detailed and looking good only to step inside a filthy interior. It would make me feel the car was only half done.



Have you looked around at what other detailers in your area are charging? You are going to have to be competitive in the market you are in. Just starting out you are probably going to have to price your services lower to attract customers and build a client base.



Don't listen to me though, I am just in the planning stages myself :)
 
I'm with rjstaaf here. If I were going to pay for a pro detail, I'd want the interior detailed as well as the exterior. But maybe it depends on your competition. If there's nobody else in your area doing any detailing, maybe you can get by with doing exteriors only. :nixweiss
 
buy the autopia ebook(id recommend the diamond edition). It has everything you need for detailing on the side, theres even a chapter on detailing for profit.
 
Call around to the different detailers in your area. Ask them what they charge and how long they take for a detail. This should give you an idea for your market...Andrew
