What to Charge?

So I was just wondering what should I charge for a Polish and Wax (had another thread about this, lil different) And what does it consist of? I seen Meguirs Polish and then I seem a bunch of different polishes. What's the difference?



This is really the only thing that confuses me a lot.

The price people charge for a polish varies based upon a number of factors. A wise person once told me that it's easier to start low and ask for more rather than charge more and lower your costs. This statement pertains to your skill and the quality of work you do. I have detailing friends on the East Coast that charge $100 for a wash/clay/polish/wax and add another $25 dollars for interior vacuum/wipe down. This process typically takes them 3 hours as they are very proficient in their work.



I have a variety of polishes, but haven't had much experience with all of them and some I haven't even used. I have Meguiar's M205, Optimum spray polish, Wolfgang's and Shine Supply polish and Shine Supply AIO MF ediditon. I have read/experienced M205 and it will require a IPA wipe down before applying the wax/sealant.



I'm new and my best advice to you would be to cruise the forums and soak up as much info as you can. Make friends with a detailer that is nice and helpful and make sure you have the right equipment and pads for the job. A simple search on google will give you great insight to what people charge and what is included in that price.

My best advice is do a lot more research and learn as much as you can before even thinking of charging people to detail their vehicles. Practice on your own as well as friends and family members vehicles first. Get your technique down, learn what works and what doesn't. Asking for advice as to how much to charge for a polish / wax job shows you already have a good proven method and have acquired the skills to do a quality job. Asking what the difference is between Megs crystal polish and others is, shows you have much more research to do, basically the opposite end of the spectrum of the original question. Not trying to be rude at all so don't take it that way.



Do you have a polisher to use for paint correction or are you doing it by hand?
 
If you're asking questions like the difference between different types of polishes, you should not be charging people to do it.



You should also learn to use the search function and be posting this in the correct area. I think everyone let you slide the first time, but 2 threads about the same thing, both which just needed a simple search and both which were in the wrong category, is kind of ridiculous. There is a section for people doing this as a business (even if it's just on the side) more toward the bottom of the page.



You charge partially based on your skill level and, like I said, if you're asking questions like this you shouldn't be charging quite yet for polishing...
