What sealants are durable?

How about some love for DP Premium Surface Shield a very under-rated product from an under-rated line. I keep quite a few of their products handy at all times.
Maybe I am alone on this but the big "Z" just never really wowed me so much that I invest in it all the time.

I concur.

I have tried everything out there sans Werkstatt and BF, but Zaino has held up most effectively to the elements for the longest period of time.

Since Klasse's reformulation due to VOC regulations, it has fallen off the durability chart.
sean do you do a complete detail on your car
when trying out other products?

This is a subjective excercise where preferences come ahead facts. I personally believe that anything exposed to the elements will degrade quickly in the presence of water, oxygen, carbon and sunlight. Yes you may still have some water beading but that's just half of the story, how about UV inhibition. Water beading without good UV blockers is worthless because this where you maintan your gloss, reflectivity and depth. Unless by scientific tests I shall be hard pressed to believe that any of the sealants on the market have such strong UV blockers that last six months right through washes. Again there is a difference betweeen water beading and UV protection that a sealant or wax provides. Hence, I'm a believer in maintenance, I constantly use products with high UV protection for maintenance every week as opposed to expecting a sealant provide a long haul protection all alone.

For durability I go for PPS. But I have cyclos sealant on a couple of cars and I like what I see. I also have FMJ, MG21, Z2, Chemical Guys M-seal and Automagic 10QT and all of them have good to great durability. But PPS is best so far IMO.

Where do you purchase your PPS from?

I tried somthing out last night after I got home from two detail jobs I had finished. What I did was washed my 05' Tahoe. I already have more than enough sealer/wax on the thing so I clayed the hood. I then polished one have with Color "X" the other with AIO. The side that had been polished with Color "X" I went over with #20. The side I did with the AIO I went over with Z2-Pro. Wiped off both sides and let cure overnight(15hrs). This morning I topped the side with the Meg's products with #26 liquid. The other side with AIO/Z2-Pro I topped with Natty's Blue. Now I let stand for 30 minutes each and removed by hand with a clean MF.

I here all the hype about AIO/Z2-Pro/Natty's Blue being the slickest combo around. Well I may stir up some fecal matter here, but the side with the OTC polish and #20 topped with #26 IMHO is noticably slicker than the much more pricey first combo I tested?

Could this be all cure time fooling me, perhaps. Or is there a different cure rate between #20 and Z2-Pro? Or is #26 just a better LSP than Natty's Blue. I have my conclusion, and for the price you can guess which product I will be using out on the field.

Are you basically going after the slickest carnuba topper #26 ,vs Natty's Blue vs. etc...?

In the slickness department, Z5 and/or Z2Pro, topped with Z8 is about as slick as I've ever seen. IMO your slickness will drop quickly if you top this combo with a carnuba product. My neighbor and I topped the Z combo with Pink Wax earlier this year, and it did change the appearance but not the slickness.

Many sealers will run laps around any carnuba topper in the slickness dept, especially if your using a synthetic booster (UPPS, BF, Z8, etc..).

If you're after slickness stick with a sealer. Zaino, FMJ, and BF Wet Diamond each have excellent slickness, based on my uses. Zaino retains 'slickness' longer than any other product/combo that I've ever used.

20 topped with 26? I give it 4 weeks, max.

I would stick with a sealant on top if you want slickness.
20 topped with 26? Why the ? ...... ?. #26 though many will steer away from it has a nice deep shine. There may be "BETTER" products out there, but IMHO Meg's has a great "Professional" line of products that can compete with the best of them. Dollar for dollar you cant go wrong.

I PPS from a friend who is a retailer for PPS. I did a test on a friends car, polished with Menzerna IP and PO85U. Sealed the front door with Z2, Back door with FMJ and the back fender with Cyclo CTI sealant. All the lsp:s was on for like ~30min the I wiped the off. Z2 was not even close in slickness to FMJ and CTI. I was surprised with this, beacuse I have heard so many told that the slickness of Z2 was crazy. On another car I sealed everything with CTI except half the hood, that I sealed with Z2. After I could feel with the towel where Z2 was applied. But this was only after one coat of each. Will tough try the Z2 with the accelerator and Z6.

Will love to test the new blackfire, heard it´s even slicker then FMJ. Anyone who can chime in?

Yeah. That's my question: how long will it last?
Also: what's being hidden?
just questions.
How long will it last, well I would say that depends on how you maintain you paint. Dusting it, with a QD(Meg's#34)wipe down once/twice a week would deffinatly give it more than a month as was stated by GSRstilez. As far as the hidden issue, again that goes back to "prep". A properly "polished/sr" surface as you all know is the key. The Sealer is the protection/slickness, and the LSP, well heck we all know that's all about looks anyways.

Great question by the way, but are you saying that Meg's products have "fillers"?

Are you familiar with the #21 product, would you say that would last longer than 4 weeks.......

What sealants are durable? It seems they are either durable or look great. There is one that comes to mind that does both but I would like to hear which ones you think look great, and which ones are more durable, and which ones you feel do both.

I've found that Klasse SG, UPP, and EX-P are all durable. Sometimes I'll even combine 'em.

Lately, I have been using UPP as my final LSP since I find it's the 'slickest' of the three.

But they're all very long-lasting, especially if you garage and/or wash the car at least every few weeks. You'll get close to 6 months if you garage and wash; 3-4 months if you don't garage. Double or triple-layering will give you a bit more.

Best thing is to add a refresher coat every month or two and it'll stay strong year round !

I own an '03 black Hyundai Santa Fe. It is driven every day and garaged at night.

Last October I applied ONE coat of NXT Tech Wax with a PC, white pad, speed 5. That one coat lasted easily until May 8, when I put another coat of NXT on the truck. During the seven months between applications - and multiple automatic car washes - finish looked great. Beading after every wash. Virtually no additional swirls from the washing.

Now, except for the pollen which I CD almost every day, the finish looks almost like new. It shines. It beads. It feels slick. I could not ask for more.

Why do we make this subject so complicated? In the last three years I've tried everything except Zaino. NXT works for me. Now what do I do with 32 bottles of stuff with one application down from full?

ya forgot that one, but its also hard to work with!

Greg

Greg----I just used KSG last weekend and it was a breeze. I used the WOWO method and it took my only 1 hr. on a Forester. You MUST apply VERY THIN.
I used the Klasse AIO first, and that took me about 1-1/2 hrs.
