what RO machine does everyone use here?



im contemplating buying a new machine...



currently have a GMC RO, which doesnt really spin once pressure gets on it...
 
I have the Hitachi FSY which I got from Just Tools in South Melbourne (Clarendon Street ). They need to order it in for me. It was $149 when bought it about August last year after other Autopians recommended that model.



Mine does have an unusual "characteristic", ie. it has 5 speed settings and #4 is slower than #3 and of course #5. It has been in for service under warranty and has received a new speed control but it is still pretty much the same. This is not a major issue as I don't need to get up to that higher speed when polishing.

Its ok, very powerful (4,300-6,800 OPM). It is an adequate machine for you polishing, glazing & waxing. Not sure I would buy one again though, It doesn't have the same range of speeds as the PC. Your also stuck having a 6inch backing plate, it's quite noisy, heavy and expensive too! From research it the best we can do without going to the expense of getting a PC or a 240v Cyclo. Theres certainly nothing wrong with it and it does the job beautifully, I'm just trying to talk myself into a PC :grinno:

looking at bunnigns today, they had the bosch PEX400AE RO which is 400w for $150





then they had a royobi RO ER0750VK, which looked like a rotary, that was 750w for $95



how much difference is there bwteen the two?

Pad Size............. 150mm

Orbital Diameter.. 3.5mm <---- I think 5mm is the ideal offset which the PEX400 has

I gave my Hitachi and good work out over the past weekend. I used a Megs pad for the first time (previously I have been using Arnold Pads) and it got stuck on so tightly on the velcro (hook and eye) I thought it was going to be there for eternity. Geeze it was damn hard to get free.



Anyone else had this issue?
 
Yes Hemi, I have the same trouble with my Hitachi when using megs pads.I have being using Edge pads more recently with no problem to remove the pad when finished.

davekt, thanks for letting me know. I was wondering if it was because I had the pad attached for a fair while and giving the paintwork a really big work out might have heated up everything. I have heard story here on Autopia of the plate melting under some circumstances.



I will be prepared for it in future.
 
anyone selling a Metabo PE12-175



just looking at some 2nd hand ones first, trying to save costs instead of buying it brand new
 
Makita 9227 Circular Polisher with 3M White Waffle / Ripple Pad and 3M Grey Waffle / Ripple pad both with Velcro backing.

But use a Flat Yellow Compounding pad when removing badly Oxidised and scratch surfaces before proceeding to 3M White Waffle Pad for polishing and finishing off with a Glaze or Sealant with the 3M Grey Waffle pad. Absolutely Swirl free!!!!

3M's a bit expensive but hey it comes in a pair (2) in a sealed bag.
