Hey guys, a friend has a black 68 camaro he just bought with a 15 year old paint job. I believe it is acrylic paint and it definitely does not have any clear coat on it. For the most part the paint is in good shape however it has some major marring/swirling/webbing that really kills the appearance. Someone earlier on this car tried to fix this and in some spots wore the paint down enough to start showing signs of another color underneath the black. Therefore any types of abrasive is most likely not an option. I'm thinking a good glaze with fillers and some Z3? What do you guys suggest, we cannot afford to lose anymore paint, so no heavy abrasives please. Thanks for the help!

It sounds like you already know what to do (and what *not* to do), but whether the results will be satisfactory or not is anybody's guess.

Pick a glaze (Meg's #3/#5/#7/#81, ClearKote RMG, Menzerna FTG, 1-Grand Omega, something else...) but I dunno if the Zaino will bond to it. I'd probably use a wax instead, something like #16, Collinite, or Blitz- a "heavy" wax will hide a little.

But your buddy's really looking at a new paintjob. 15-year-old enamel isn't anything great anyhow and if it's a nice car, well, a '68 F-body deserves a nice paintjob anyhow.

thanks accumulator, he probably will end up getting a new paint job eventually but in the mean time i'm thinking #3 or #5 and a good carnauba wax as you suggested. I know they're not popular, but what about those turtle wax color specific waxes? I've never tried it but in this case it might help hide a lot of the flaws?
