What polish would you use?

I have to detail some Camaro (10 second all motor Camaro, I get driving rights too). The car is black, has 16,000 miles and even swirls to pass as a 20 year old car with 150,000 miles. The owner paid a few hundred bucks to have everything fixed and it looked perfect when it came back.........until I washed it. Then I noticed more swirls and 3D holograms from a rotary.



I tried my Cyclo with the 3M Perfect It rubbing compound, it works but leaves the paint cloudy, I don't want the hassle of having to go over the car after compounding to remove that cloudy effect. Strongest polish I used was on a car with 1/5th of the swirls this guy has and even that looked nice but in the sun you could see where I should of went over the paint a few more times with the polish.



What's a stronger polish I can use? All these cars just have to be so damn bad off. :o :mad:
 
You might try DACP with a PC and a cutting pad. That has been very effective for heavy swirl removal and hologram removal for me.
 
If the RC you're using is the 05933, I'd just use it and then follow up with some PI-III MG 05937. You may very well *need* something so harsh it leaves hazing in order to get out the stuff you're dealing with.



FWIW, I'm currently getting problems like that out of an Audi. PI-III RC (05933) by rotary, then either 05933 by Cyclo or 05937 by rotary, following up with 05937 by Cyclo. Just no way to avoid all those steps, at least in my case. It's working well, though. Just checked my work in the sun- no problems.



The DACP might work, but even then, many people have to follow up with something milder. Hard to remove significant marring with something that doesn't leave hazing of its own.
 
Accumulator - Thanks big time. I have a plan, well sorta. This is what I want to do:



3M Perfect It-II rubbing compound

3M Finesse It polish

3M Show car glaze ***

P21S wax



*** Answer me this, whats the difference in the Show car glaze and the Machine glaze? Is one abrasive and corrects the swirls while the other fills and hides them?



Wondering because I need to order Finesse It but I want to know whether or not I should get the machine glaze instead of the show car glaze.

Use the 39002 with a cutting pad first.

Then use the 39002 with a polishing pad.

When things are looking good, use the FI-II with a polishing pad.



I dunno about the "showcar glaze" by 3M, only know of the Meg's product by that name :confused:



The PI-III MG (05937) is an abrasive polish with (supposedly) no fillers. It's a great thing to have around, good general-purpose light polish. I'd definitely order some. Many/most people find it gives a ready-to-wax finish, even on black.



Actually, if *I* were doing the ordering, I'd just get the PI-III RC (05933) and the PI-III MG (05937) and *maybe* the PI-III Finishing Glaze (05941), which contains some wax and would make a great base for your P21S.



I used to use FI-II, but once I started using the PI-III stuff, I gave the FI-II away to my wife's nephew. But hey, that's just IMO and of course YMMV :D

You said exactly what I was hoping, a complete product line from start to finish. I also did read your pad suggestions and I'll be sure to follow it step by step.

Just purchased all three products that YOU would of bought. Looks like I'll be handing out some free bottles of Perfect It-II rubbing compound and other stuff I wont use if this new lineup performs.
 
Oh, you'll still find some use for that old stuff. Remember that the PI-II RC is a little stronger than the PI-III, it might come in handy.



I'd forgotten that you're working by Cyclo (gee, I *am* getting old!). Be sure to use cutting pads for the worst work. The Cyclo cuts pretty well with the yellow pads. But switch to the green ones as soon as you can. And don't be afraid to work a panel quite a few times. The PI-III stuff is pretty mild, overall.



If you get tenacious residue from the PI-III MG, use some Meg's #34 to wipe it off. Doesn't happen enough to be a real problem, but it *does* happen.



Sure hope this stuff works out well for you. The 3M stuff really is the only line of abrasives that I like using besides 1Z.

As far as 3M's Show car glaze. Doesn't exist.



Here are some possibilities from 3M's line that might have been confused for the above name.



3M Imperial Hand Glaze

3M Show Car Wax

3M Perfect It Hand Glaze



No other way around it, there wouldn't be so many polishes on the market with such an assortment of pads if one thing did it all.
 
I'd go as strong as DACP with a cutting pad, then #80 Speed Glaze with a polishing pad, finish with the wax/sealant of your choice.
