What Polish To Use on Light, White Scratches and Swirls?

Lastly, are the waffle weave microfiber towels the best for drying the car without scratching? And what mit or towel is best for the actual washing of the car that won't leave micromarring? Also, what is this I have been reading about taping off certain areas of the car, is this necessary?

Yes, WW MF's are great for drying your car. Often I'll use a WW then follow up with a plusher MF to get off any remaining water drops. On your final rinse take the nozzle off your hose and more water will just sheet off making drying quicker/easier.

I prefer to use a sheepskin wash mitt, some like to use a chenille mitt or sponge, just make sure it is nice and plush and use the âہ“two bucketâ€Â system to keep your mitt rinsed free of dirt/grit. You should use a second (different) one for wheels and other dirtier areas.

Tape is used for a couple of reasons. One it keeps polish, wax, and sealant off trim. Some products like AIO, VM, etc. wonâ€â„¢t stain plastic, trim, weatherstrip, etc. but many wax/polish products will.

Some detailers also tape off areas that are prone to having a thinner layer of clear coat like edges, ridges, etc.. This is mainly a concern if using a rotary because it is much more aggressive than a PC. You shouldnâ€â„¢t have to worry about doing that with a PC, but be aware of those areas and donâ€â„¢t polish too long on them with the PC when using an aggressive product and/or a cutting pad. Also a rotary can burn weatherstrip, again not as big a concern with a PC.

The PI-III RC will leave some fine micromarring, but that goes with the territory when you're removing swirls. The MG will fix it all up just fine.

I'd just use the Klasse twins so you're good for the winter.

I read that Menzerna doesn't work well with PC buffer (doesn't generate enough heat)

I used an orange lake country cutting pad with Menzerna Intensive Polish. Tried it at 3 1/2 rpm and followed with an white polish pad with Menzerna Final Polish. I only tried a small part of my trunk because I already detailed my car the other week. one pass w/ each product took out 90% of my swirls. The deeper ones were still there but I think I need to apply it a 2nd time. works great for me

Would the Menzerna process be comparable in terms of effective results to the 3M process, or is one better with a orbital buffer?

There are many here who like the Menzerna products and achieve good results with them. I have heard they work better with a rotary, but many on here use them with a PC and get good results.

Members here regularly use Megâ€â„¢s, 3M, Einszett, Menzerna, and Poorboyâ€â„¢s polishes with good results. The two that I use are Megâ€â„¢s (#83 and #80) and the 3M RC and MG. I recommend the 3M line because it has worked very well for me and is a bit easier to use than the Megâ€â„¢s.

I will say that the 3M, Einszett (1Z), and Poorboyâ€â„¢s (SSR2.5 and SSR1) polishes are the three that I cannot remember any negative posts about.

Pick a polish, read how to use it, and then get those swirls out!

I too have recently used Menzerna IP with cutting pad and FP with polishing pad. Not only did I have no problems, but the results were outstanding :D...even better than I got the #83/#9 combo. :up
