What pads should I buy?

Alright guys. Time to buy the PC/pads. I'm going with coastal tool for the PC, so I'll need some pads.



I figure I'll get 1 of the yellow sfx-1 pads, and maybe 2 of the sfx-2 pads.



Are the blue pads really necessary? I'll probably be waxing by hand.



Are there any other pads I might need? I want to order everything at one time to save on shipping. Will I need a more agressive pad than the SFX-1?

Depending on what you are trying to correct you may be ok without the yellow pad. 2 SFX2 white pads would be good since they are the most universal of the 3. If you don't have much correction to accomplish the blue SFX 3 pad may be a wiser choice over the yellow since it can be used for more applications.
 
so I should pick up a blue?



I want a yellow because I'm going to be working on some pretty well messed up cars soon :)
 
It would be good to grab a yellow then.



Since the blue is only about $10 more grab it while your placing your order. If you don't get it you know you are going to "need" it ;)

I'm not sure if your mind is made up on the brand or not but I would suggest you take a look at the Edge 2000 System. I've stopped using hook and loop pads altogether on my PC. These pads are really slick.
 
Definitely take a good look at what Danase has to offer. I also purchased my PC kit from Coastal tool a couple of years ago. If they have not changed the kit (PC, 6 inch BP, 5 oz and 6 oz weight), then the BP will fit nicely into the 7.5" pads that Danase has. You can customize your selection of pads with his pad kit - use your autopia discount to get another 10% off too.

Great choice - I love the SFX pads for the PC, as I have found they "work" much faster than other pads out there because of their density and ability to withstand lots of pressure.



Get the yellow, 2 whites, and a blue if you want, but I have found the blue to give out and break down after about 10 hours of use - I have 5 white ones that each have anywhere from 15-30 hours of use and are still going stong, though they are a bit softer than when new. My only peeve about these pads is that they need to be about 1/4" larger in diameter to offer a little more protection from bumping the backing plate on curvatures.
 
As Rag put it, the ability to withstand pressure on the Sonus pads are great....however, I personally "dislke" (euphemism) my Sonus pads; Another recommendation that I'm shocked hasn't come up is Propel P2's. Typically when it comes to pads for Rotary or PC, the big three are LC, Edge, or Propel--out of those I only recommend the Edge or Propel pads. Again, Sonus pads are good but I find the easibility of the P2's and working ability (more pad grades) much better than Sonus' and they're a "pain" (another euphemism) to clean and completly dry...
 
well I actually went with the LC pads from danase as the 6-pad deal is really good.



any particular reason why you don't recommend lake country?
 
What is the point of the LC green pad? I have the white and orange, didnt know there was anything in between

They are okay. The white pads are more of a closed cell structer similar to the SFX pads, only I don't really like the cupped design for the PC, though I like 'em better on the rotary for heavy polishing.

I bought a bunch, but wish I hadn't. I don't really see a use for them...the green Propel IIs are far better, for PC or Rotary.

For durability and being near idiot proof, I love the Griots pads. I have orange for polishing and red for glaze & waxes.
