what orbital should i buy for detailing

The man I have detailing wants something like this:

http://tampa.craigslist.org/psc/for/1689559241.html (the heavy 10-15 pound orbitals.) Then again he is OLD school and probably never used the newer orbitals?

He says he wants something heavy because he doesn't think a 5.5 lb orbital will do a good job. I told him the Griot's Garage has a LOT of power. Probably will go with the GG anyways:)

What can the 15 pound makita orbitals do what the GG can't? Are the heavy one's easier to apply wax to the car or something?

Stop paying attention to what Old School is telling you. Just tell him uh huh, yea and wow and that should pasify him. The Griots or G11V2 will have more then enough power. I don't think Makita has come out with a orbital yet but I may be wrong.

What exactly does he mean by heavy....Man he is old school :cornut:

my bad. didn't mean makita orbital. I got the two confused when thinking about buffer.

Lastly, what does the acronym "da" stand for. i have seen this posted quite a bit on the forums.

I am going with the GG b/c of the + fb and lifetime warranty:0

DA stands for "Dual Action". A true DA machine has both orbital and "forced" rotation.

So the Porter Cable, Griots, and the Meguiars are truthfully "RO" machines and not "DA". RO stands for Random Orbit. Why? Even though all those machines have orbital action and also rotation, the rotation is not forced. With enough pressure, the rotation can be stopped.

The GG machine, however is VERY difficult to stop rotation! I'm a big guy and even with near 100 pounds of pressure on the machine, I have been unable to stop the rotation... extremely powerful and "torkie"!!!:Dancing Dot:
