What Oil do you use in your Car?

I used The factory recommended Mobil-1 0W-40 in my turbo Jetta every 10k. My new TDI Touareg calls for synthetic 5W-40 but I'm having a hard time finding ones that meet the VW 504.00 and 507.00 specs. I think Castrol Syntec has some. I'm sure you love that Amsoil. Have you ever had a blackstone lab done?

I use Pennzoil Ultra 5w40 Euro in my BMW 335i. I think it meets the VW requirements as well. They also have an engine warranty you can sign up for at the Pennzoil site if your car has less than 60000 that's very worth looking into.

It truly is the bible of all things oil related. I love the education on oil filters it provides as well!

What oils are the track, AutoX and HDPE drivers using?

The same as daily driving for my Porsches.

15w50 Mobil 1 for the Carrera 4S

0w40 Mobil 1 for the Cayman S

But the change interval is once after every three track days.

I have heard reference to M1 5w30 being jokingly(but very seriously) "the worst oil in the world" lol.

I have too, but then I've seen motors with 200k+ on them that look spotless with M1. It seems to be one of those that is bad on paper but good in real life.

Really? I always thought Mobil 1 was supped to be very good? Is it just that weight for some reason?

I wonder then. I only hear this from the performance shops I work with.

But like Dan, I have seen decent data from BITOG as well. I personally jsut prefer all the protection I can get, so thin oils kinda scare me.

there were some recent changes within the Mobil product line up that got people all tensed up at that website. Some products appear to have benefited, others did not.

It depends on the the car. The BMW requires ll-01 and there are not a lot of options. I have been running Mobil 1 0W-40 in that car. Last OCI was 16,200 miles (nearly two years) and I sent a sample to Blackstone. The oil looked so good they said try 18,000 next time. I follow the maintenence minder. CRV is under warranty so what ever synthetic the dealer sells. The older Infiniti and Nissan get what ever high mileage oil is on sale (usually valvoline blend) once a year. In the Cobra I ran Rotella T because of the high ZDDP content.

For my 2008 Lexus ISF, dealer recommended oil is dino so I always tell them to upgrade the OC to Mobil 1. I always take it in and have the dealer do ANY service work while under warranty. NO WAY i want to get into an issue with Lexus should the engine go or something and they try and make it a result of improper maintenance. Yeah, keeping receipts is one thing but no need for the headache to save a few bucks per change.

For the longest time I was a Redline guy but using track oils for a daily driver isn't recommended as they don't have all the detergents etc. that a daily driver needs. I also found the German made Castrol 0w30 to be a very stable (yes I'm a BITOG reader for over 7 years) but have just switched to Mobil 1 across the board in all my vehicles.

I do however still use Redlines injector fuel maintenance product (SI-1) every 10,000km.

IMO: I wouldn't use Dino oil in any of my vehicles (or even lawnmower ). I would prefer to use Full Syn (non hydrocracked) and go 2x the recommended. Ends up costing about the same but the level of protection and quality of oil would be significantly better. So if you're on dino and do 3-5,000mile intervals I would go full syn and do 6-10,000m changes. And you end up using 1/2 the amount of oil (if you're enviromentalist). If you have a high wear engine based on analysis, maybe then changing the filter 1/2way through a full syn oil change interval or adding a magnet might be a way to go to keep the filings from circulating.

I would also avoid all oil air filter or high flow air filters that claim a couple of extra hp and go with the dealer filter. I've seen too many oil analysis that have contaminated engine oil from them. Granted, I haven't been keeping up with it as much the pasted few years ..

Use to use BMW castrol 5w30 synthetic in all my cars, it was free when I worked for BMW lol. Now I use Penzoil Ultra changed every 3k in wife's ride (lot of stop and go) and 5k in mine (mostly highway)

Ultra is a really great oil. Its my top pick for off the shelf synthetic. I've had good UOAs with it, and so have many users. PP is also a good alternative to PU.

M1 changed the basestocks of their oils a while back which displeased many consumers. They may have corrected this by now. A UOA could help tell you how well this grade is doing in your car if this is a concern. UOAs are good at giving you a rough picture of an oils performance.

I meant just on Autopia here. Curious to everyones use.

In that case mark me down for M1 on every vehicle I care for. Sent to Blackstone 3x for each vehicle and then the OCI is determined on an individual basis.

p90x workout schedule for many people will undoubtedly be “too way too soon. Now, that’s perhaps not normal for everybody. You may very well maybe not encounter overstraining, If you’re already in physically active and good form.

Essie usually retails for $8, which is pretty pricey for a drugstore nail polish. However, stores do put essie nail polish reviews on sale every once and awhile, which can make it a little cheaper.
