What Oil do you use in your Car?

Hey everyone, what motor oil do you use in your car?

I'm currently running Amsoil Signature Series 5w20 in my Mitsubishi Lancer. In my wife's car I'm using Pennzoil Ultra 5W30. I chose this oil for her car due to her vehicles questionable maintenance record and Ultra's "hyper" cleaning claims. I'm considering using Quaker State Ultimate Durability in her car after a couple more oil changes in her car.

The usual OCI for these cars is 6000 miles or less.

Thought it would be cool to see what you guys/ gals are using.

Mobil1 10w30 every 3K or less :).

I would like to switch to something with potentially better protection(my main concern) however have no idea where to start.

Check out the BITOG forum for some great info on oil. Thanks for posting.

I always run an oil that meets the OE spec required by the engine mfg. It takes all the guess work out of it :)

My E46 M3 uses Castrol 10W60, and to my knowledge no one else is making a substitute. Given the age of the car, I doubt anyone is going to come out with one either. Zero guess work there! :)

I used The factory recommended Mobil-1 0W-40 in my turbo Jetta every 10k. My new TDI Touareg calls for synthetic 5W-40 but I'm having a hard time finding ones that meet the VW 504.00 and 507.00 specs. I think Castrol Syntec has some. I'm sure you love that Amsoil. Have you ever had a blackstone lab done?

For the Audi, Castrol Syntec 0w-30, for the old Cadillac, Castrol 10w-30, and I'll be using Mobil One 5w-20 in the Accord. Oil change time is coming up real soon for me.

you wasting both money and oil. You should be running that oil for at least 7500 miles if not more. Used oil analysis' have proven it to be so.

As for me, I run OEM recommended weight in whatever oil I can find for less than $2 a qt. I change my own oil always every 5-7K miles and have yet to have any engine issues with any car I've owned. Filter choice is FAR more important than oil brand choice. Motor oil has such strict manufacturing specs to follow, you'd be hard pressed to find one that is not capable of going 5K miles before needing to be changed. Bobistheoilguy has more info than you'll ever need, want, or be able to comprehend.

For vehicles that do not see many miles, is there an ultimate cut off point to keep oil ( synthetic in particular) before it needs to be changed? I've never kept oil in a car for more than a year and i guess this is okay.

Things used to be so much easier when synthetics were real and not hydrocracked base oils. Now I just go with what the mfg recommends. For older cars I like valvoline high mileage. Seems to smoothen things out a bit.

Because of the acidic and condensation breakdown an annual change is best no matter the mileage.

Audi S4: Mobil 1 0w40

Porsche Cayman S: Mobil 1 0w40

Porsche Carrera 4S: Mobil 1 15w50

BMW 2002tii: Castrol 10w30

Toyota 4Runner: Castrol Syn 10w30

John Deer Push Mower: Penzoil 5w30

Use to use BMW castrol 5w30 synthetic in all my cars, it was free when I worked for BMW lol. Now I use Penzoil Ultra changed every 3k in wife's ride (lot of stop and go) and 5k in mine (mostly highway)

I'm a die-hard Mobil 1 user. Both of my GM Gen-IV LSx 5.3L V8s call for 5W30, so that's what I use. I also always substitute one quart of oil for a quart of Marvel Mystery Oil.

I am on the BITOG.

Can you elaborate on the differences in changes oil change intervals for a daily highway driven versus a turbocharged well driven car that is driven considerably more spirited but less overall miles?
