What is your top 4 QID's

OID, FK 425, OID, FK 425

Why four? I was using FK 425 but could not get any with the recent shut down so I went OID. They are both excellent and I think I will stick with OID based on the cost factor.

I have been a QD junkie and tried almost everything!

Here are my top 4, but one extra for a dedicated use.

MEguiars UQD/Mirror Glaze Version, i do not care for this on paintwork, its a nice product but for me it leaves things a little too reflective. However on sealed wheels it helps repel brake dust and makes things even easier to wash!

Here we go:

- Clearkote QS; It can be used on everything, tends to enhance whats there rather then bring its own looks so its versatile and wont compromise the final finish of product applied.

- Crystal Mist; Expensive, but great! This does tend to attract a little dust but has Nuba type looks for a spray and wipe!

- OID; Looks good, can be prone to steaking. It the best of all the polymer QD's inc. 425.

- Mothers Showtime, its like a weaker version of QS. Its cheap, you can get it locally and it cleans well.

So does that mean #34 is a very good QD for cleaning?

IME it's so-so, and not really for heavily soiled surfaces. IMO the *best* things about it are a) it's very gentle, and b) it leaves a minimum of stuff behind. Yeah, the lubricity/etc. are OK but that sorta goes for most all QDs.

I use it on delicate non-automotive stuff that needs risk-free cleaning that won't change various appearance characteristics or leave the surface "different" (e.g., antiques).

For *cleaning*, I'd go with either QD-strength ONR or FK146 (which I just somehow *really like* for some reason). Both of those will clean better IME than #34 but both are also "heavier", if that makes sense.

I dont know about the rest of you, but I own and use more then two different types of waxes/sealants. Why not more than 2 QD's?

I guess it depends if you are a pro or someone who just details their own car - like me.

I have a ton of waxes, sealants and QD's that get no use. Tried them, found something better.

Right now I have one sealant, one wax (or glaze) and one QD I use and will use until I find something I like better. Note that type of wax (or use of wax at all) can and will change with the temperature outside for me. In the summer I presently use three coats of UPGP topped with P21s 100% topped with OID. This winter it will be same as last - DWG topped with UPGP topped with OID.

I guess you could say different QD's work better on certain types of wax or sealants and that would be an interesting discussion.

I'm also a hobbyist and I almost solely work on my own cars. Like you, I have a good number of products of all kinds, but I use them all. It makes detailing more fun. I guess I'm trying to say that it's a matter of perspective.

Right now, I use Meg's M135 after almost every wash. Good cleaning and leaves a slick, reflective finish. I also use Last Touch for claying and for when I dry my door jambs after each wash. It's cheap by the gallon and effective. Nice coconot smell also.

I had a bottle of UQD. Great too, but I hate the sprayer. It goes all over the place as soon as there is a little wind.

I agree. However and like I said, I tend to find my favorites and all others get put aside. However, in trying to find a favorite you go through a lot and I always end up buying and trying something new I read about here, so in a way I use them all - I just tend to stick to certain favorites. I really should switch around and use up what I paid for, but I just end up buying more of what is my current favorite and I guess the makers of all this stuff don't mind as everybody has different favorites...

That's my position on this topic. Each time I reach for a certain QD instead of some *other* QD, I have an objective, functional reason for doing so. I'd no more use FK425 on my Jag than Crystal Mist on my S8, even though both are very good products.

Yep. I just starting using OID and I love it over over a nuba on my jet black. In the winter my LSP will be a sealant at times and I'll be curious to see if I like it as much over a sealant as compared to a nuba.
