What is the oddest thing you've been paid to detail?

I've done buses, jet skis and even golf carts, but I got a call from a regular customer who runs a company that sells and services forklifts. Yes, he wanted me to detail a forklift for a new product line they were rolling out. Bright orange too!

Wow. That is an odd one. I've wanted to do one of those but just the nature of the purpose of a forklift makes detailing kind of redundant. lol Quite a notch in your belt though. Are you going to add that to your portfolio? :p

I've primarily stuck with automobiles although I was tipped 5 bucks to put a coat of Blitz on a guy's mailbox once. I wouldn't really consider it a detail though. It was a pretty clean box and I didn't even clay it or prep it properly before I waxed it. With hindsight I should have done a better job so I could brag about it more. Oh well... lol

They wanted it nice and shiny for their rollout. I did what I could with the horribly oranged peel paint. It had a real nice shine when I was done, but when you got close, you could see all the orange peel.

I once got paid by a customer not to detail, but to drive his wife's Mecedes S600 down to Discount Tire and wait around until they could fix a slow leak in one of the tires. $40 for sitting on my rear end for an hour and I got to drive a sweet V12 luxury car. :D

I was caught polishing my untility trailer with my PC which is painted red. Not much to polish but the fenders and frame but I also dress the tires. I know its an illness ........... call Autopia!!! :D

The buddy that caught me doing the polishing swears he was going to have me committed. :nixweiss

I did a 12 (?) foot "cigarette" boat, and its trailer once. It was bright yellow. Besides the toilet, that would be the oddest thing I have detailed.

I didn't get paid, but I detailed my snowblower just before winter set in..... ;)

in a similar vain, I zainoed my riding lawnmower before I put it away last fall... we'll see how it looks when I pull it out of the barn this weekend.

i did all thee firetrucks at the local fire company. Nice shiny truck now!

My dad woke me up one day last summer, and asked me to take hair line scratches out of a mahagony (sp?) table. Turned out really nice. I only wish I had my 3 hours of sleep back.

my god, how long did that take you?

About 3.5-4 hours or so to wash the exterior (the guy has a pressure washer and water deionizer at his warehouse, so it dries spot free, saving a bunch of time), clean the engine, dress the tires, clean the exterior windows and wax the front end. If I had to wax the whole thing, it would take around 2 hours or so more.

Gee, I guess there IS a use for spray-on car wax after all!

Actually, it really doesn't take as long to wax something that size as you would think. Nice flat panels, and the guy has a 'stair' type 15' ladder that makes it very easy and stable to work up high.
