What is the new compound craze these days?

Hey, good to see you posting..seems like I haven't see you here for a while.

I'm currently *in love* with M101, and/but I add a little HD Cut to increase its worktime. HD Cut is pretty mild unless you use just the right pad (which I apparently don't do).

Yeah I wander back from time to time. I haven't done a whole lot of detailing lately. Had a few small paintjobs here and there but nothing major since July I think it was. My dad passed away back in September so I've been going bk home to help do some around the house maintenance for my mom.

My wife got into an accident last week so I'm waiting to get it back from the body shop. There was some damage that I wouldn't have been able to fix myself (radiator support, minor frame pulling, ac compressor) so I'm getting them to fix all that, jamb out the hood & fenders, line up the fenders, hood, bumper and grille. That is all they will be doing. I'm going to do all the painting myself. It's time to go over the whole car with the buffer anyway.

I got pretty good cut with the HD but not with a foam pad. I have been using the black wool pad HD makes and a wool pad by Meguiars. I wasn't able to get good cut out of M105 (I know you said M101) with foam pads either. I was talking to an old friend of mine at a body shop yesterday. He said they are using the 3m 4 step system at their shop. Said it looks great on black but I was thinking....I used HD Cut and HD Polish on the last truck I painted and it looked amazing. Seems like a lot of extra steps. I cut it with 1200, 1500 and then 3000.

xtremekustomz- Well, I'm glad your wife's OK.

No surprise you're doing the painting!

Just FWIW (not doing a hard-sell or anything..), I found the M101 to be in whole 'nother league compared to M105, but it still finishes out at least as well. I'll be interested to hear what you end up going with and how it turns out.

Another vote for the new Griots fast correcting cream. I paired it with one of their MF pads on a GG6 and it did a great job on some etched waterspots on my Alpine White BMW which has the hardest paint I have ever seen. Long working time and super easy to use.

It was a 5 mph crash. Crazy though cause it did $5500 in damage. Are you using a rotary with the M101? Does it have the same oils that the M105 has? I really hate having to do a wipe down before moving on.

Oldfordisbetter- Seems like everybody likes that GG Fast Correcting Cream! Nice to see how they've upped their game recently.

Yeah, I hear you on how expensive those little fender-benders can be (my Audis..).

Nah, I never use my rotaries any more so I have no idea how M101 would work that way. But it cuts hard clear really well via RO/DA, and even by *hand*.

Funny, but I never had issues with the oils in M105, only with the ones (and maybe they're the same ones!?!) in M205. So sorry, I'm not giving you many decent answers :o

Menzerna FG400 or BOSS Fast correcting cream from Griots Garage.

You can use both with the rotary but I find for rotary use the FG400 works a little better.

I ended up going with the 3d AAT and grabbed a black used fender from a body shop scrap pile today. I sanded a spot with 1200 and another with 1500 before going over the sections with the 3D wool pad and AAT. I must say it cut the scratches out nicely and fast. It left behind some light marring from the wool pad but I stuck on an orange pad and ran over it again. I would say it was an 8/10 at that point. If it weren't black you probably wouldn't have been able to tell. Since there was some marring I ran over it with a white pad and some HD Polish. Not a swirl in sight after that. I'm pretty happy with the purchase and I think it will work well for me. I got the gallon 20% with free shipping so it basically came to $35/qt which is on par with pretty much everyone else.

xtremekustomz- Glad to hear (but not surprised ;) ) that those worked so well for you. Took out 1200 huh? Gee, maybe I'll get out the rotaries again some day after all.

I did a video of me using it.

Here are the shots under a light and in the sun. Not sure why the pictures have the halo effect because it is clear in person. Must be the lens on the phone refracting it.

Extremekustomz -

Great job on the write up and pics ..
Exceptional work with the Dewalt on the video !!

Hard to beat the side handle on a Rotary for balance of the machine between your core, putting downward pressure on the pad, and ease of use moving it anywhere you want it to go..

Perfect speeds - aren't lower speeds so much easier to do this work ??

I also have way better results letting the pad and product getting to know that panel for a longer time that way too..

Way to keep the pad always flat on the panel..

Very nice Clarity here..

Glad to see that you can Compound and Finish out - wait for this - without swirling it all up - :)

Looks great !!!
I am proud of you !!!
