What is the best "prep" product - before clay, applied by PC?

I have pretty good paint on a 1.5 year old Honda Accord that has been well maintained up until about 5 months ago. It has been clayed and Klass'd up until that time every few months. Due to a move and new job it has been neglected for about 4-5 months (only even washed twice over that time).

I want to give it a full service soon and I am buying a PC at some point soon. I was wondering if DACP was considered the best for prep work prior to claying. Thanks.

any prep work you do should be done after claying. You clay to remove any contaminents from your surface before prep, also the polish will remove and swirling or marring claying may have induced. DACP is good, i also like FPII

Aah right - after claying...i knew that :o

FPII is not on the acronym list - is that just a newer version of Menzerna Final Polish?

yes, sorry, actually its Menzerna Final Polish II (not really the same product really called Micro Polish but renamed to avoid confusion). It has more oils added than FP which allows you to work a little longer with the PC.

Prepping is what you do prior to waxing, correct me if im wrong.

But your prep should consist of washing, claying, & a smr this preps the vehicle to its cleanest & most swirl free. Your choice of products should be based on a personal preference and the look you are trying to achieve good luck.

To answer your question you can use DACP after claying and it will remove some light marring.

right, i should have said any "polishing" should be done after claying- i think he edited his post, if you read the subject he asked what prep product to use before claying.

before clay then that would be washing right  i dont see why any one would use DACP before claying, its been a long day at work ;)

Ok then, it's FPII. The paint is in pretty good shape and there are very few swirls - it's silver too so it hides the swirls pretty well. I don't really want anything abrasive...just a mild polish/pre-sealant prep.

Thanks for the help.

Snatchface- Back when I used FI-II, I always liked following up with a milder product (this was on silver). Just something to consider. Maybe PI-III MG (05937) or Menzerna FP.
