What is a good steamer?

Back in the '70s I had one that ran on propane. It was sorta generic (don't remember the brand name), but IIRC I got it from the same place I got my sandblaster... Maybe "TIP" or something like that. It was about the same size as a tank-style sandblaster, and I wouldn't have wanted anything smaller or less powerful.

I have a similar looking vapor cleaner from another vendor. While I find it a great cleaning tool, around the home I don't use it much for automotive purposes. For cleaning carpets it is (IMO) a better spot cleaner than a general purpose cleaner. It does have the benefit of not getting surfaces overly wet. It is not a replacement for a good extractor. I wouldn't use it under the hood at all. Vapor steam is hotter than...well...steam.

In the home it is great...clean and saniztize hard flooring, mirrors, tubs and showers, sinks and countertops, ovens, cooktops, etc. etc. etc.

I use a Euro Steamer, but I know that Vapor Master is another dependable brand. The two machines are almost identical. I currently don't use it on the engine, but I use it on almost every step within the interior of the car. With the attachments that come with the machine I'm able to clean and sanitize the dash, vents, radio, cup holders, nooks and crannies, etc. I'm also able to clean the headliner, carpets and cloth seats in 99% of the vehicles I detail, without the use of an extractor. I find that everything comes just as clean as an extractor( which I do use on occasion for spills and such) at a fraction of the time and without all the moisture that extractors leave behind. Carpets and seats are dry within about 10 min. It is truely my favorite tool and one that I would not go without. Highly recommend adding this tool as it pays for itself very quickly with the time it saves on interiors. Hope this helps.

Take care,

Matt Williams

Guess I was thinking of a completely different type of "steamer" :o I somehow didn't even think of the DeLonghi steamer we have, I just never seem to use it :nixweiss I did use one of the smaller, hand-held ones, until it sprung a leak in just the wrong spot and burned me but good.

I probably oughta use the DeLonghi steamer more, it just sits in the box while I use other methods. Maybe if I move it out to the detailing garage I'll start finding uses for it :D
