What have you waxed out of the norm?

I'm interested in starting a small shop myself in my local area using only the best products, techniques, and ideas. I'd like to model after someone, or a few individuals whom have already walked this path and suceeded.

I'm looking for insight on the process of detailing, and helpful hints on how to succeed. If anyone knows of some excellent books on just Detailing alone, or how to start a detailing shop, then that would help as well. I would like to work on show cars, and exotics. I'd like to cater to the Enthusiasts in my area basically instead of doing your average joe's vehicle.

As of now I'm just going over which books to read, how to arrange a business plan, and how to survey my area and begin the process. I live up In Enfield, Connecticut which is on the line between Massachusetts and Northern Connecticut so I'm pretty sure there is a market here, but like I said I need to get a lot of ideas, and some help in making the transition, learning where the pit falls are, and how to go about doing things in a systematic way. I love Zaino by the way so that would be my personal choice as of now for doing professional work. Any ideas are helpful!

I don't know if Sal will read this (Sal Zaino) but if you have any ideas to add that would be very valuable to me as well!

You are on the right site to ask about a book. David's ebook is one of the most comprehensive detailing books I've ever seen. You can order it on this site. Right under the Classic Motering Accessories logo on the top right there is a link that says Autopia Guide to Detailing. That is an excellent book to get to help you out. :up

Welcome to the board! My psycho parents live up in your neck of the woods somewhere. My dad works in Springfield Mass. and lives somewhere up there. Ellington is the name of the town I think. I think my mother is in New Haven but I can't remember. We don't keep in touch much if you couldn't tell. ;) That is a nice area to be in though. See you on the forums!

Hey that's great. I'll have to check it out. I'm really trying to get a lot of contacts, and get the ball rolling. My situation is a little different then mosts being I've been sick for along time with Lyme Disease, but I'm hoping once I feel better to really take this serious and push it through thoroughly. I'd like to really do this and enjoy the process at the same time.

Yeah I'm up in Enfield. I just moved from Springfield Mass a few years back. My family lives there. Sorry to hear you don't have the best relationship with them. It's no fun, and I've been there. Takes a lot of work on both sides of the coin to make relationships work, and you can only do your part. Thanks for the kind welcome! :)

Hey I'm from South Boston, MA, quite a few of MA residents on this fourm.

Despite what you may think with all the bd weather, people are still willing to spend so much money to maintain thier cars finish or even fix it, to fix finish's you need to somehow advertise that, most people think once thier car is dull it is dead. We all know with an polisher it's not even close to dead.

If you can fix up a young persons sporty car I feel that is an excellent way to start. Young people with money and sporty cars are more willing to spend however much your asking rather than a mid aged lady with a mini van.

Just an idea.

So we all know MANY of us have "issues" with wanting to wax everything we look at, right? So what have you waxed/sealed that might be out of the norm from our usual mediums? For me it was our stove and dishwasher. We bought this stove...

and the top of it is black which shows EVERYTHING (imagine that) and it was hard to clean grease off without it streaking. I one night I was like hey, it's a painted surface, I should seal it!!! So I broke out my BFWD, put a thin layer on the stove top, waited a bit and wiped it off. Wow was the surface slick and it was much easier to clean after that. Next up with our new dishwasher...

It's stainless steel with what looks like a clear coat over it so of course...BFWD!!! I was actually surprised by how great it came out. Told the wife to come and look which she did and then rolled her eyes at me, haha. I didn't snap any pics because THAT would be strange right? Right??? Who's next?

I have some storage cabinets in m garage and I put a coat of 845 on them this weekend.

P21s polishing soap on glass cooktop and stainless sink blackfire spray sealant on gloss black smooth finish appliances looks like a mirror lol my wife thinks I'm crazy but likes that I clean them at least

p21s polishing soap on sinks, shower head/handle/drain. Wax on sealed wood tables [darkens the look and adds protection/beading], OID on everything else [addicted to the scent].

I have a new dressing every week on my Merrells too, including using KAIO, wax, and OID. I use them for work every day, but can still wear them with friends as they still look like new

I polish and wax my cultured marble shower too. I currently have 845 on. Trying to see how long it will last from daily assaults of soap and water.

I also wax my fishing rods.:)

Nick, that is just sick lol....

Pretty much everything, currently working on restoring the finish on my air compressor.

I waxed a brown marble tabe with some P21S nuba. Came out awesome. It is now so much glossier and evened out the shine across the whole table. There was a few dull spots from things being dragged across it-No More!

My mower. But, we have granite in the house and you are supposed to seal it. From the ingredient list on the bottles it seems to be a wax like product.
