What happens if I put on a 4th coat of Z5....

My family flew down to Florida for the weekend so I am detailing the Family Truckster, in this case, a Honda Odyssey.



I have some Z5 and Z2 that I am using. I mixed up too much Z5/ZFX, as always, and have put 3 coats on already. Rather than throwing it out, I was thinking about putting it on. What would the result be? Why is 3 the magic number?



I know Sal says 3 is the max number, but what is that based on? What happens to the supposed 3 layer build up if I add a 4th?

You biggest issue may be product overload, which could cause the last coat to streak or not want to wipe off clean.
 
Try to imagine all life as you know it stopping instantaneously and every molecule in your body exploding at the speed of light.

A fourth application of Z5 should produce far less dire consequences... :)
 
I've done 6 coats in a 48hr span. No smears, on the paint, but maybe there was too much product overload on the windows. The layering days are over for me.
 
There are some guys over at the Corvette Forum who are compulsively anal. They have competitions to see who can layer the most coats of Zaino on their Vettes! (nuts)... One guy claims to have over 100 layers on his black C5. Absurd in my estimation...



At any rate, there's nothing magical about the 3 coats. You can apply as many as you like. When I had my black Grand Prix, I applied Z2 every 2 months for 4 years and never polished. The car looked amazing.
 
I think the OP's question is about a 4th coat within the 12 hour span that the ZFx'd Z5 is mixed up. Not about layering lots of coats over a longer time period.



The point of limiting to 3 coats is to allow them to cure appropriately. As you probably have noticed, Z actually looks better a day or more after application.



You are in Indianapolis--I don't know how warm it is there. Seems to me that Z cures better and faster in heat without humidity. My guess is that Sal builds room into his recommendations and it will be fine to add a fourth thin coat. But why not just pick up the phone and call him? His knowledge about his products and his willingness to help his customers is amazing.
