PC for me. Maybe one day I will step up to a Cyclo or even a rotary. With a PC or Cyclo though, you never have to worry about thin corners, sling, paint burn, or holograms. Plus, I have corrected some *horrible* stuff with a PC, maybe once I do a Corvette or Audi, my mind will change. The PC has a lot more capabilities than a lot of people give it credit for, and the additional safety of it is a big plus in my book.

Oh, and :wavey RCBuddha, I was *just* wondering if you were still on here, thought about you yesterday.

Hey Accumulator! Yup, I'm still around, I haven't been posting as much, but I still lurk around quite a bit.

One thing about the cyclo: I like and use velcro backing plates. You can get them from Excel, Rightlook and Autogeek, and combined with Propel 4" pads, I find the cyclo easier to use. I'm still waiting for the Edge 4" pads though, that'll be my next major purchase.

Today I got to use a cyclo for the first time . I couldn't get over how much less it vibrates compared to the PC . I got to try out the new Edge 2K pad system on it , all I can say is if you love your cyclo now, your gonna love it even more once you try the Edge 4" double sided pads on it . The cyclo runs so smooooooooth with these pads its a dream. I'm so juiced about switching over to the cyclo ! :buffing:

I also found the Cyclo with the Edge 2K pads much lighter then the PC with the Edge 2k pad. :buffing:

I use a DeWalt rotary in the shop for compounding and glazing. I had both a pc and a Cyclo and sold the Cyclo to get a Festool Rotex. The Cyclo was heavy and single speed, but did a good job.

The Festool is the Porsche of dual action products. Random Orbit when you need it, and switch to Rotary for scratches. It's not meant to replace the DeWalt "Big Bertha", but augment it where the rotary is clumsy or won't fit. I will probably unload my Porter-Cable as I just don't use it anymore.

No ones mentioned my favorite tool yet!!! A makita 1/2inch corded drill/w synthetic lambswool pad...

lol. Cant wait for my PCand Edge pads to show up!!! I have a feeling it will make detailing my car easier!!

I gotta look into the Edge system for the Cylo, that sounds intriguing! Heh heh, I still remember what a wrestle it was to get pads on the Cyclo before they had velcro boots for the thing

Generally true, and yeah they're *way* safer than a rotary, but I've cut through thin paint with both (OK, it was *very* thin paint) and I've done maybe-burn? type damage with the PC/4" on the MPV. So while you don't have to be as careful as with a rotary, you really *can* damage paint with these things. Which, *IMO* means you can also do some serious correction 'cause after all, abrading away paint is abrading away paint, whether you're removing marring or damaging your paintjob. Heh heh, note that I'm the guy who was *absolutely* unable to do correction on an Audi with the PC/6.5" too. But I've been able to remove anything that I wanted to on plenty of vehicles using the PC/Cyclo, and I could've removed even more if I was willing to thin the paint that much.

As I posted in another thread, one of my builder's guys used a PC to polish scratches out of a stainless steel countertop. It took him a *long* time, and he was using the proper products, but he did it. Got a nice, uniform finish. If you can polish *steel* with the thing....

Yeah, I am seriously considering some 4" pads for the PC for when a have to do an Audi, or worse, a Corvette:scared:

I have done some serious correction with a PC, some stuff that I am sure most people would have pulled out the rotary for, but I got it out with a 6.5" Orange LC pad and OHC(which I couldn't live without), sometimes taking multiple passes.

I am surprised the Cyclo isn't doing better. I think the Cyclo's downfall is the price. But once you get one and see how well it feels and how well built it is you see why it was a little more.

+1 on that. I have the PC as well as a Vector rotary. I have as much invested in those two as the cost of a Cyclo. Although I would love to purchase a cyclo to complete the trilogy.

have read mixed reviews of the Cyclo. One member that I respect very much was very disappointed in the Cyclo. Another member that I respect just as much is a true beleiver of the merits of the Cyclo. using these two as a barometer I must see for my self if the cyclo has merits for the kind of work that I do.

Maybe next year. I know Santa is not going to be bringing me one this year.

I think price is one reason , and yes your right about how well it's made . As I stated in my earlier post I've never used a cyclo unitl the other day and I was totally surprised by how well the machine is made and the total absence of vibration compared to the PC . Another huge plus to the cyclo is you can't stop the thing ike you can a PC by pushing or holding the pad while its running. One speed compared to 6 different speeds on the PC takes the guess work out of "which speed should I use " . The cyclo is really worth the difference in price , test driving both machines will settle that debate.

Yeah, that was my reaction, too. But, you get what you pay for (usually)!

cyclo here as well. i tried a pc, and like someone else mentioned, it felt like it was going to vibrate my hand off. my wife was balking at the price of it... but after we sold her Expedition, we had some "extra" money.... she ordered one for me (without me knowing about it) and i couldnt have been happier with the decision.

the cyclo is very nice... it feels like a solid chunk of polished aluminum :chuckle: anyone semi local is free to give it a whirl if they like... for sake of comparason
