What do you like to use to lube clay?

i bought a kit the first time, the mothers setup and it came with lube. i ran out of the lube, and the clay is toast, so i gotta start over. where can i buy clay in bulk i guess, and also what do you like to use for the lube? thanks

Why is the clay toast?



If you don't have QD handy, mix up a little car shampoo and water in a spray bottle. That works great as a clay lube.

Soap and water for me. Why use a $5-10 bottle of QD when you can mix maybe $.20 of car shampoo and water?

nice thanks guys, i think soap+water is the way for me. the clay is toast because i didnt split it into pieces and let the whole thing become contaminated, stored it wrong, etc. wont mess that up again

I do it while I wash. I wash a panel, rinse, resoap, clay, rinse all the way around the car.

Alcohol/water mix, roughly 50/50. It doesn't make the clay fall apart because it helps prevent 'folding in' water (evaporates quickly). Plus you can get a true feel of how clean the surface is with no oils to add artificial slickness. No scratching problems so far, as long as you use a lot, and that's not a problem, it being so cheap.

I use Showroom Shine (a QD) I purchase from a local Auto Detail Supplier. However, car wash and water mixture works just as well (plus it's cheeper)

I like using up my least desirable qd that I own. You can get rid of a lot of product lubing for clay. And you still feel productive while you're disposing of a mistake-buy.
