What do you have planned for your first "major detail" as soon as weather permits?

I'll be doing this first on a 99 Sentra learning how to use a

PC 7424 then if I'm comfortable enough I will try it out on the Z.

-Wash with Dawn

-Wash with Perls Shampoo (will order)

-Dry with CWB & WW

-QD & Clay

-1Z Paint Polish (Hopefully this will take care of the minor swirls)

-AIO

-NXT

-PS

-AIO application on wheels

-NXT Tech with foam applicator on tires

-Black Magic with Silver Tint on tires

-NXT Tech interior

-Meguiars Leather care

-Fabreeze interior then vacuum

My main goal is to get rid of the swirls off my Z. I'm hoping that 1Z will take care of it, if not I guess I'll try something else(any suggestions). Since this is my first time with a PC, what pads should I purchase and which product to use it with?

I'm sure you'll get the finish you want with the PP.

Start w/ a polishing pad and work well the product in one section. Remove and watch the results. If you like it, finish the rest of the car using the same method. If you feel it was too mild, repeat w/ a cutting pad.

If all you have are minor swirls, I see no need to use any harsher product.

BTW, save the perls shampoo for the next time you wash the car, as you're going to polish, clean, seal, you'll not benefit from it.

If its the same as now (I lost my job) then:

wash

clay

Menz IP with CMA yellow pad

Menz FP with CMA white pad

Dawn wash (does dawn get rid of BFII?)

3x Z2/ZFX

If the situation has improved

wash

clay

Menz IP with orange pad

Menz FP with white pad

might try GEPC or just dawn wash again

AIO

3x SG

Durable real wax topper maybe? (collonite or Blitz)

I'd have to order the Klasse, GEPC, orange pad, etc etc... need new towels regardless.

Can someone tell me if you can put a wax topper over the SG or would I just do the AIO then the wax? I was reading that bot the Blitz and Collonite were extremely durable on outdoor cars in adverse conditions.

You can go straight from AIO to a wax, but you won't get the durability you would if you include SG in your combo.

Blitz and Collonite are durable waxes, but they won't rival a sealant, e.g., SG.

BTW, good luck on your job situation.

As soon as my car (2001 Audi A4) ARRIVES here in Germany, I'm gonna work out the microscratches that are all over her and coat her in P21S wax.

Any tips for microscratches in black paint and where I can get some good materials? I ran a search and got some info about 1Z. Is that generally a good recommendation?

Dawn

Clay: BF

DACP in some trouble spots

#9

#81

Collinite x2

S100 and every month thereafter.

but that all sounds so mundane :nixweiss I did this routine just before weather went south and got good results. The paint looked warm, slightly wet, but didn't have the ultimate sparkle I was hoping to get. I attracted a lot of dust too IMO. Comments, suggestions???

the rest:

Leatherique

Full engine detail and wax all compartment paint

Pull wheels and AIO-SG-Collinite

Condition all my door seals with 303

pssstue,

Don't know:nixweiss Seems like the S100 on top of Collinite would give it some "pop". And I never had a problem with S100 and dust.

Just curious ... are you doing your prep work by hand or PC?

Do you have a good QD? FD really brings out the "pop" in S100

:xyxthumbs

BTW, the weather in New Orleans has been fabulous the last few days ... sunny and in the 70's. Too bad it's predicted to rain on Mardi Gras Day (Tuesday):(

Pressure spray the undercarraige, wheel wells, back side of the wheels.

Dawn wash

Poorboy clay

Poorboy SSR2, then SSR1 on some scratches and overspray.

Poorboy polish.

Poorboy EX

Poorboy Paste wax??

Stoners Invisible Glass

Poorboys Bold n Bright on tires

Poorboys Natural Look on interior

Poorboys Spray n Wipe on all under hood pieces, chrome wheels and door jambs.

Vac the bed rug.

I'll be using the PC with the SSR's, the polish and the EX.

I've been keeping it up pretty well this winter by driving my beater most of the time or at least until I can't stand it anymore. On the occasions that I got the good truck out the snow was frozen dry and I used those occasions to Spray n Wipe the truck. It still looks real good but the full detail needs to happen soon. The snow is almost all gone and maybe...just maybe (!) we'll get lucky and not have any more...but I'll be very surprised if we don't get at least one more wintery blast from Mother Nature.

My spring break will be in a couple of weeks and here's what I'm planning to do:

Wash

Clay

3M SMR

AIO

SG x 4 or 5

NXT or S100

What do you guys think??

That's what I thought. I just completed a Black 98 Jetta with the same combo (-#81) and got sweet results. I think that possibly the moisture in the air is making any dust cling to my paint. ??

And I never had a problem with S100 and dust.

Maybe I just have a lot of static electricity in my area?? Beach city, not likeley though, right?

Just curious ... are you doing your prep work by hand or PC?

85% prep work by PC.

Do you have a good QD? FD really brings out the "pop" in S100

I use EFCP. I have always been happy with it but I have also never tried anything else. I bought a gallon 8 months ago and have about one more 32oz sprayer left. I will be getting a couple different types next purchase to get a feel for what works best with differing combos.

Thanks for the advice. I guess I need to but more pads since all I have is an orange, white & gray pads.

Focusing on the least fun parts to clean: wheel wells and lower rockers. That's about the only part I really don't enjoy about detailing- the lowermost 4" of the vehicle. Wash clay polish wax is :spot when the weather's nice.

Wow, I don't think I've ever seen a thread revived after 6 years of inactivity before.

However, here is what I am planning as soon as I get a good weekend:

-dawn wash

-meg's clay

-wash

-color x applied with DA

And as soon as winter is over:

-Full interior (steam, griots leather care, 303, Woolite for seats if steam isn't enough)

-door jambs (steam, grease hinges, 303 on rubber)

-remove roof rack for easier paint correction

-wheels and wheel wells (APC)

-dawn wash

-quick clay

-wash

-tape trim/pinstripes

-M105 / orange or white LC pad

-M205 / White or grey LC pad

-BFWD using DA / red LC pad (maybe 2 layers)

-maybe a layer of M26 using DA

-replace roof rack and 303 on all exterior plastic and rubber

Think that about covers it!

Old-BTF.jpg

Wash (test out my new foam cannon :dance )

Maybe Clay

Touch up polish

IPA wipedown

P21S paint cleanser

blackfire wet diamond (just got my hands on some)

take wheels completely off, seal both sides with poorboys wheel sealant, wash with P21S TAW and wheel gel.

First I have to revamp EVERYTHING I have- QD, Wash, MF, Brushes, Pads, Sealants, Waxes. ($400 so far...) But its going to last.

-Wash (Shampoo Plus)

-Clay (Mothers Clay, Last Touch Lube)

-M105 Correction with PCXP

-M205 Correction with PCXP

-85RD Finishing with PCXP

-KAIO as a base

-FK1000 as sealant x2

-S100 or Lusso Oro x2 as the cherry topper ;)

-Interior with M40

-Exterior Dressing with Hyper Dressing

-Interior Cleaning with APC

-Treat & Condition leather with Megs GC

Yep, got some work to do, and going to try to keep the paint flawless as long as possible :)
