what do you guys use to dry your car to avoid water marks?

One of the things you will find that hinders the efficiency of the absorber is protectants that have silicones in them and the likes of Armorall. Once the absorber takes some of this on , eg tire dressings, it will need a good washing in something like Dawn to cleanse it.

I buy a new Absorber every year and last years becomes my door edge dryer , door edge rdyer now becomes engine compartment dryer and the last for wheels etc.

Damn things last forever.

Currently I have been using it only to pre dry the car by holding it by the corners ans dragging it over the major body panels then finishing it off with a MF towel.

:xyxthumbs I use a combination of waffleweave towel (waynestowels.com) and Black and Decker Leaf Hog.

I cant wait to get some malco pro autogloss. saves the drying step. at the moment it's professional perforated chamois to remove excess then top quality bath towel to finish off but i use very very light pressure.

I do all the other detailing after that and finish off with an inspection of the body and fix any areas with 3M GE

The Absorber
Meh. The Absorber was the worst of all the drying tools I've tried. Only picks up water for about 1/2 panel before leaving drops behind, grabs the paint surface, pain-in-the-butt to wring out, mildews easily . . . again, meh. The Water Bandit was marginally better (absorbed more water before requiring wringing), but suffered from the same problems as the Absorber, IMO.

I gave my Absorber and Water Bandit away when I discovered waffle-weave MF. Two medium-sized WW's will dry my WRX completely and quickly, leaving no small droplets behind (key to avoiding water spotting), and I never have to wring either towel during the drying process.

Tort

for those folks who's cars are black that I wash for them, I use a big blue MF towel. I find it helps to wash in small sections and dry immediately.

I use a neoprene squeege. No, one one of those "california blades" you buy at walmart, but one made from wetsuit material with a very flexible spine. Works great at getting the water off all the big areas very quickly, with no tracks or spots. Then I wipe down the nooks and crannies with a towel.

I just sold a Black car and without doubt the best item I used as I was drying it was a Quick Detailer (Final Inspection). It certainly prevented the chance of water spots. I used a very good 100% cotton terry towel with the QD after I'd gone over the car with the Absorber. Black Cars are a pain in the rear and the use of the QD definitely improved the results. I wouldn't be without it.

I use a large MF for drying - - have not yet purchased the MF WW yet, but I will be ordering a couple in a few days from Patrick.

I can't believe that after reading all those posts not one of you are using the P21s drying towel. I am on my 2nd one in three years and I wash my truck at least twice a month. They far outperform the absorber and are available at most motorcycle shops as the S100 drying towel. I haven't tried the microfiber waffle towel but am intrigued. How large are they? Do they hold much water when drying? I have two absorbers and they won't dry anything but my dirt bike. They left spots everywhere.

The Absorber is bordering on worthless.

I have a few WW towels on order...they are supposed to be great for drying. The ones I ordered (from Ranney) are ~ 2' X 3'.

Well, that's probably because Spree was looking for a particular PRODUCT to substitute his cotton towels.
