what do you guys use to dry your car to avoid water marks?

Be careful lwith MF's on dark cars. You'll cause micro marring.

Try the water sheeting method with a blow dryer.

No matter what you do you may need to QD afterwards anyway, if you want perfection. I like cotton better, feildcrest,

I've used all sorts of MF towels on my car and have never seen the effects of micro marring. My 4Runner is relatively dark, so I am able to see most of the imperfections that are on it. I've looked at the paint under many different lighting conditions and have not found anything. I've also used cotton with the same success. It's a matter of preference to me. There are no ill effects with cotton or MF, but I just prefer MF towels. :)

I have also been using the Perfect Drying Technique that Pats300zx has posted a link to. It's an excellent way to ensure minimal washing swirls.

Waffle weave MFs. Viking has some super absorbent 16 x 16 hemless MFs coming out soon. I have 4 of them and they they've held up well over the last two months. Poorboy's and Patrick also have some super plush MFs that work very well with QEW.

Absorbers are terrible!

Bought 2 gave ... gave one away and don't use the other one.

They don't dry well ... always leave little beads behind that you have to pickup with a MF or WW.

Acually if you give the absorber a chance .. after a break in of 5 or 6 car dryings the Absorber does get a lot better. Granted right out of the box ( tube) they are better than a rag but need time to break in. I still occasionally use them for pulling the initial water off the car by holding it by the corners and draging it over the flat areas.

Tom I used mothers car wash. Where do they sell the powergloss?

Woops, should have been calling it Duragloss 901, not Powergloss.

I'm pretty sure it was bretfraz that suggested trying it. He said it was among his favorite shampoos.

I found it at a tiny. local auto parts store called Federated. IIRC, it was $4 for a pint bottle which is gonna wash a lot of cars.

You can also buy on-line from the mfr. They are in N Carolina: link

Here's a list of retail outlets where they claim you can buy the products: list . I telephoned 3 or 4 and no one had ever heard of Duragloss...at least not in my local area. I would grab a bottle and see if it doesn't help the condition you are concerned about.

Absorber & Waffle Weave for me.:xyxthumbs

I just started using a WW about two weeks ago, and I love it!!

The absorber is awesome, especially after it is broken into.

i use the big blue micro fiber and love it. as fot the fieldcrest white cotten towels they are the worst towel i have ever used for drying. they do not suck up the water. they are ok for removing wax, sealer, etc but i find that they leave tons of lint.

I use the water sheeting method when rinsing the car then I use California Water Blade. Whenever I use it, I clean the edge very well before putting it on the paint. Then I use an MF for whatever left.

I've never used Fieldcrest for drying but have used it for wax removal. This was of course before I was introduced to MF-CBT. That was the main problem with cotton towels, lint. :nono

Tom that dealer list is just what I needed. I have Napa and Car quest here. Thanks so much!

spree, make sure you call NAPA and Carquest before travelling...the stores in my area didn't know anything about the product.

I also use a CWB. I think it's a good tool as long as you don't expect it to completely dry every surface.

Clean the edge every pass, don't use too much pressure, and use it on surfaces that don't have too many contours. It does a fantastic job on windows!

Use the CWB to get the bulk of the water off and then finish with a drying towel.

You'll find that a good QD can break the surface tension of a water drop so that it won't tend to form water spots.

I don't use fieldcrest for drying, only sg or wax removal.

Tha CWB works good to. What I do is keep it clean and I lube it with a little QD

With all the talk about waffleweaves, I just rediscovered how good the Absorber is. It does seem to work better with more mileage.

Yeep it does .. I still used the 4 I have

If you had troubel with the Absorber I think you were doing something wrong. I always get my best drying from them and refuse to use anything else on the car. It always dries perfect for me and never leaves scratches.
