What do I use instead of FK425???

Hey guys, newbie here.... I've been reading different posts about QDs and have gotten an impression that the top two "professional" products here are FK425 and OID. Followed by the OTC Meg's Quick Detailer. Would you say that is a fair assessment?

So the question is, does the color of the car make a difference as to which product to use?

I'm trying to figure out what to use for myself. I have a white BMW and have been using Optimum Car Wax after every wash (once the car is dry). I'm thinking if I should continue to use the OCW or switch to using FK425 or OID.

Also, do you apply/spray the car with a QD while it's still wet? Or do you dry it first, then spray the QD? If you spray first, dry second, then what towel do you use? The reason I ask is because I use Waffle Weave Drying Towel to dry after a wash and quality Microfiber Towel to wipe off the OCW. I don't think microfibers are good for drying and I didn't think Waffle Weave Towel is good for wiping off QD. Please set me straight.

Thanks....

There is a difference in professional products and boutique products and what some label as over the counter (OTC) products when in reality if you go to the right counter you can get anything over it , just some more than others . 425 is the best I have ever used and I would guess OID is nice as well ,

I only use ONR in the Optimum line although I have all the other stuff.

OCW and a QD are apples and oranges as far as what they are made for . You can use either , but they serve different purposes.

Thanks Fallguy. I figured they're different animals. So what are the main uses for each one?

Hot Rod. It's very similar to 425.

My LSP is CG Pete's 53. I've never tried a 'nuba QD so I was thinking of giving Speed Demon a shot. I run FMJ as my sealant during the spring/summer/fall and CG JS109 during the winter.

Regardless, would you still advise Hot Rod over Speed Demon on Pete's 53?

(I'll probably end up buying both, but advice is always welcome ;))

So which one gives the deepest shine and attracts the least amount of dust similar to FK425, Chemical Guys extreme slick detailer, Chemical Guys Speed wipe, or Optimum Instant Detailer? Also, of these three that fit the above criteria, which one is the easiest to wipe off? I am starting to notice that FK425 isn't as easy to wipe off, especially on windows.

I haven't used the CG stuff but I will tell you that OID is pretty direct replacemnt.

There are a few details though that are slightly different.

If FK is a 10 in gloss, OID is a 9.

If FK is like a 5 in cleaning power OID is like a 7

If FK is 8 in ease of use OiD is like a 9.

So you lose very little gloss but gain some cleaning power and its slightly easier to use.

Btw the #s I just posted are just for comparison purposes

Thanks. Will the OID remove any trim protectants if sprayed on after? I use FK108 on my bumper trim and when I QD the car with 425, it still keeps them very dark and matte after. I am basically asking if it will clean too much to the point where it will remove the proetectant. It probably won't be that big of a deal thought if it keeps the finish dark and matte.

No OID will not remove trim dressing. I see no noticeable difference, it may darken it a tinge actually.

When I said OID has more cleaning power, I didn't mean like a solvent cleaning action. Fk425 is extremely slick but I feel like OID has more lubricity to wipe away contaminants.

As for the question about diluting OID, its 3:1. You will probably have streaking issues at 2:1. At 3:1 some people have complained about streaking and further diluted it to 3.5:1 or 4:1. I personally have never had a problem with streaking. Just make sure to use distilled water.

I just tried Victoria Concours detail spray with my red wax. I would have to rate it up there with 425, OID, and several others I've used.

Which one has more slickness, OID or FK425?

imho there's not alot of difference but i'd give the edge to 425, try surfcity garage hotrod detailer as good or better than 425 imo.
