I tinted a set of taillights for my Car. I am happy with how they turned out, except now the finish is Orangepeeled. I am going to wetsand and recoat them, but I am wondering what made them Orangepeel in the first place, I don't really want it to happen again. Any Ideas??

I took this from my Automotive Body Repair and Painting Manual. Hope this helps

- Improper gun adjustments and techniques (too little air pressure, wide fan patterns or spraying at excessive gun distances cause paint droplets to become too dry before they hit the surface and they remain as formed by the gun nozzle

- Shop too hot (when air temperature is too high, paint droplets lose more solvent and dry out before they can flow and level properly

- Improper dry (gun fanning before paint droplets have a chance to flow together)

- Improper flash or recoat time between coats

- Wrong thinner or reducer

- Too little thinner or reducer

- Materials not uniformly mixed

Without knowing what you used and how you applied it (gun or rattle can) it's hard to tell.
