What car to buy with $30k??????????????

The p90x workout is one of the most physically demanding home workouts out on the market and it is used by celebrities and every day folks alike, but for one man, the experience landed him in the hospital.

After about 10 minutes of using the baby weights (just kidding–I understand it’s just a different type of strength training), we moved to the bar. This is when things got interesting. “Lift your right foot on bar method reviews,

Heh heh, with all the cars being mentioned I can't help but get up on my soapbox and say:

Better save some of that money for a good driving school or your new $30K toy is gonna bite ya if you let it off its leash.

One week from today, I am going to a sale.

Two cars that I think can be worth a bit more in a couple of years.

Not exotics, just good iron and growing in value everyday.

1964 Ford Country Sedan, all original, black paint, red interior, 352 V8, automatic, factory air, 79,000 miles, owner has had it for 30 years.

1977 Thunderbird,all original, 21,600 actual miles, loaded, like new, 289 V8

Think the wagon will bring more money, but going to try and get it at my price, same with the Bird.

These cars are drivers, but most important, easy to sell at a profit when I am ready to sell either of them.

Grumpy

Ron Ketcham- You mean "Country Squire", not "Country Sedan", right? ;) Just wondered since you said "that wagon.."

Man, I could be all over that thing. What a dog-hauler it'd make!

I think that the Sedan is correct, as it is a plain jane, pictures don't show any fake wood side trim.

Wasn't the Squire outfitted with that fake wood trim, and a higher interior finishing?

They are advertising it as a "Country Sedan".

What the "hey", it's cherry, doubt I will be able to bid high enough but it's worth a chance.

Have two buddies that are going to bid on it, but they agreed to stop if I give them the "sign".

After all, sure that they wish to be around for Xmas with their families.

Grumpy

Ron Ketcham- Eh, my memory might be foggy, but I *thouht* the wagons were all "Squire"s, woodgrain or not  When you get it we'll know for sure ;) But yeah, somebody with deep pockets might take a fancy to it....good luck with it. [Accumulator will *NOT* be searching it out and bidding as his Crown Vic continues to stimulate the economy...talk about "what to buy for $30K :o ]

That's one really cool find there...the Cougar strikes me differently as I remember my band director getting one new back when they started with that "Baby square-Mark" styling.

Back in the late 70's, I had a couple of the LTDII Limited's.

First was the tan and dark brown, the 79, I ordered, black and silver, 351, loaded, even got the "travel tank" option.

It carried almost 35 gallons of fuel, and on the interstate would get 22 mpg, my bladder took a beating on that car.

The thing with the Bird that is for sale (same as the LTDII, just different trim level, I can drive it, enjoy it, and put up with people coming up to me in the parking lot to chew my ear off about how neat it is, etc, etc.

Don't get that often with the newer cars unless a true high dollar exotic, and a few hundred grand.

Plus, can sell it after having some fun with it and at the least break even, more likely to make some bucks.

I was just in St. Augustine and they have a ghost tour featuring riding in classic hearses. I thought what a great dog hauler one of those would make! :D :chuckle:

Ron Ketcham- Ah yes, that Travel Tank...sure wish they'd make those these days. Didn't realize you could get that on the 2dr though (only knew about it at all from the Police package cars). IIRC, the styling on the LTDII was just a *bit* less angular than on the Bird/Mark, right?

Bill D- Don't get me going on the hearse-as-dog hauler idea, my VISA quivers at the mere suggestion! Redoing the roofline to my taste is where the big bills would start (see, I've looked into this pretty thoroughly ;) ).

I agree big time! As a certified Hi Performance Driving Instructor for PCNA (Porsche Clubs of North America) I am on the track a lot at DE (Driving Education) events. More so than not the drivers need serious attitude adjustment and better skills to safely drive their cars the way they "think" they can drive. These DE events are a great way to gain skills and respect for performance driving. It's also a great way to safely have fun and keep it off the street.

In 69 or 70, I was an instructor for CORD in Peoria, Ill. (Council On Responsible Driving is I recall)

Same time I was competing in SCCA with the Cobra and my Mustang.

CORD was directed to the "troubled" young drivers basically.

Their schools would indentify those who appeared to lack respect for just how dangerous a car can be.

Ford donated two cars, big LTD sedans, roll bars, dual controls for brakes and acelerator, fitted with four slicks.

We would put up cones, wet down the area and teach those kids just what they "didn't know".

It was a blast!

May have saved a few lives in the process.

Don't know what ever happened to the program.

This is an easy answer. Go purchase a used Acura NSX, Super Fun, Sexy and Very Reliable. for $30k, you can get one with decent miles.

I am not Biased.......I Promise :D

I recently picked up a M3 ZCP Fully Loaded for $29.5k at 56k miles. The car runs great so far, no major issues. And as always, a very fun car. As far as I know, there are tons of M3 out on the market that you can consider, but just look out for the abused one.

Like everyone have pointed out already, german car isn't cheap to maintain but M3 is definitely a fun ride.

how about a Magnum era Ferrari or a VW Phaeton with a W12 engine.

30K Ferraris are usually that cheap for a reason, and much as I wanted to love the Phaeton (too bad about the soft suspension) I wouldn't own one unless I also owned a very good VW dealership.

Some cars are just bad ideas for people who have to consider budgeting in the first place.

Yeah, that really is one car in "that category" that might not be a silly idea

Do those go through rear tires quickly? Thought I remembered something about that....not that I'm being critical, some Audis simply eat 'em up too. But it's one more thing to budget for.
