What Can I Do For You...

David,

That is an excellent idea and I will explore the stickers.

What I believe needs to be done is to poke all opportunities. All of our futures and fortunes are tied together. It's beneficial that we have these discussions.

I would like to make a comment about this...

… I'm not sure how many "Pros" are advertising on Craig's List. This has been discussed on a few occasions and it kinda came to the conclusion that CL clients and Autopian standards don't share a common denominator.

While the average CL shopper may not be your ideal client, the benefit of listings in CL is how well they seem to place in Google searches. So, there is a benefit if you write a solid ad and post it consistently.

+1. My CL ads are my entire handout flyer in GIF format, and it gets quite a few views on it's own- but about 25% of those click through to my website afterward.

My top referrers:

1. Direct address (newspaper/word of mouth)

2. Search terms "auto detailing [city, state]"

3. Google Maps

4. Craigslist

I never bothered with any listing service that has an annual subscription- but they also show up in the top results- especially when searching by business name.

This is the one I'm counting on.

I have my site maps tuned in pretty well with Google. Most new content is picked up in about 12 hours.

When did I start this conversation?

Go to Google and search "autopia marketplace directory" and see what you get.

Cheers!

For those of you NOT doing CL ads, the best way is to create a graphic like this one... fill-in the blank:

The Craigslist thing seemed like a good idea. But in my area, people looking on CL are looking for dirt cheap bargains or something for nothing. I had a few people contact me and all of them we're just price shopping. Heck, one guy who had two heavy swirled limos and a couple of other cars wanted me to do them for $150 each, told him find someone else. I did get one car out of CL, but nothing special. WOM (word of mouth) is my best advertisement so far.

Jon,

My experience with CL is that you have to set the expectation up front. If you create a quality ad, it will attract the quality buyer. It is easy to make it known that you don't do bargain basement work.

Use the bargain shoppers to your advantage. Let them know how they can get a FREE wash n' wax by sending you 3 new clients. You have to get creative.

Craigslist found me one of my most loyal weekly customers down in Texas.

Couldn't agree more about the need for a quality/professional ad (as well as a nice website). This alone is something that will bring in the quality customers from Craigslist.

David,

Is there any way you can post a PSD or AI file of the template you created on page 2? It would be a lot easier for everyone to alter it that way.

I'll need to see if I can find it. As most ppl won't have PS or CS3 it would be better to use it as a background and overlay text and graphics over it.

Took your advice to heart and will give this a try: ★FREE WASH & WAX ($139.99)★Concourse Detailing Services★Se

Nice! I look forward to hearing about the results.

If it does not work the first time, keep trying.

You guys can't imagine how much time I put into promotion until I find something that works. Sometimes it can be the smallest of changes.

Will keep you informed. Also, going to update my previous craigslist thread.

Maybe it's the change in the weather, and maybe not. But since I started using these characters "★", I've been getting more clicks through to my website.

Change either brings more or less results. Marketing isn't rocket science, but it does involve experimentation.
