What are the advantages of using WW over MF?

After reading a lot of the Walmart WW thread, I'm a bit confused as to the uses of WW towels. I know they are great when used to dry a car.



However, other members mention that they use it to do QD's, remove wax, and clean glass. Is there any reason WW's should be used as opposed to MF's when it comes to these tasks? I have both towels, but I'd gladly use the WW if it is a better choice, I would just like to understand why many people prefer using WW's.
 
Waffle weave is ...well... a weave pattern - it is every bit woven of the same 70/30ish microfiber as other MF towels. It's not necessarily better, although the nooks and crannies of the waffle weave may provide a bit of extra bite in the towel as it glides across the paint surface.

I personally think it's a great choice for the ONR wash. I wouldn't be afraid to use it for QD or wax removal.
 
Although I would use the WW for the final buff of the QD only

Spraying QD onto a panel and then wiping it in with a WW towel means that the majority of it will be absorbed by the towel, not the panel



Better to use a less absorbent MF to do the first pass then a WW

That's what df towel told me and seems to be true.

I don't think qd's get absorbed

this is some bad info you were told!:)
 
i use ww's for drying (now use an extra-large mf towel as it's softer, but ww's seem to hold more water), and mf's (qd, remove polish, wax, etc) for pretty much everything else...
 
I find WWs (especially the ones made for glass) to be incredibly good for cleaning windows. I'd expected to be disappointed, but my WWs-for-glass greatly outperform anything else I've tried, including other "made for glass" MFs.



One thing about WWs is that they're less likely to leave MF lint behind, and MF lint on a windshield drives me nuts. But the ones mentioned above actually clean the glass better too.



Oh, and QDs do get absorbed/adsorbed into/onto whatever buffing media you're using. My MFs end up both wet and highly pigmented from the color of the QD...lots of QD on 'em by the time I'm finished. QDing with something highly pigmented like FK 425 makes it pretty obvious, you just don't notice it as readily with certain other QDs.

On the QD pigmentation note, it's funny, you'll find most off the shelf brands wont pigment much at all if any -- it's the high dillution rate so they can fill the bottle and make AutoZone more profit. Usually the non-store-brand QD's will chance a pigmentation more because of being a more concentrated QD. Most QD's that arent store-bought can be dilluted with distilled water if you like, sometimes up to 4:1.
 
The "secret" to WW microfiber is that the fibers are twisted. The design is such that the weave will simply hold more water, and thus why most people use them for drying purposes.



Accumulator, if your microfiber towels are linting, find a better vendor. ;)

Even the best microfiber towels may very well leave lint if you look carefully. I also find it quite annoying when I see little fibers on the surface of the glass :)

Don't confuse an unclean shear and manufacturing remnants with lint.



Good microfiber shouldn't lint after the first wash (which will get rid of the fibers left over from the manufacturing process.)
 
The MFs that've left lint included the then-best-available ones, e.g. the original light blue Miracle Towels, the Cobras made for glass, and my YoSteves (and yeah, I always wash textiles before use ;) ). With use, the regular wear-and-tear is, *IMO*, gonna result in fiber-shedding anyhow.



I dunno if my latest ones from PakShack will leave lint on glass, but I'm not gonna find out either :D Easy enough to just use the WWs for glass, which work better anyhow.
 
I probably used the wrong wording again.

what I meant to state was that using a WW with a QD means it gets absorbed more than with others and the end result (slickness etc) would not be as good.



it's good to spread the QD around a bit and work it in with a less absorbent towel and then finish with a fluffy. Works better for me than a WW.
