What are some good sites to sell my car

I've used Ebay to sell 3 cars so far, and each time it resulted in an easy transaction and a happy buyer. Actually, I am about to list two of my cars on there within the next week or so.

I've also used Ebay to buy a van for my dad's company, my brother's 98 Mustang Cobra (purchased two months ago with only 41,000 miles on it), and my mom's newest car a few weeks ago (04' BMW 330cic) and they were all extremely happy.

Oh no, no Paypal. The work van was purchased without ever driving it. It was a fleet company that was selling it and they sent me the full maintenance history, and I spent numerous hours talking with them on the phone, and bought through the mail and then had it delivered. I took a pretty big chance on this one, but it turned out just fine.

My brother's mustang, the same thing. I exchanged probably 20 emails before bidding and eventually made them an offer to end the auction early, which they did and then sent them a $50 deposit to cover their Ebay expenses in case I decided not to buy the car, then flew from Louisiana to Ohio to test drive the car and finalize the deal, which went perfectly as well.

My mom's bimmer was purchased from a dealer that advertises on Ebay, and even then I didn't give them the money until I arrived in person to test drive the car. This car was easy because it only had 8,000 miles on it and was like brand new, with the full factory warranty.

As far as the cars I sold, they all worked the same way again. I got a small deposit from them, and then they flew here to test drive and finalize the deal, then drove their new car home.

If you buy a car over the internet, I suggest talking with the person as much as possible to find out if there are any *querks* that they are not revealing in the ad. On top of that, I always demand that *letter of good faith* be supplied with the car that I am buying just to further protect me from something that I may *find out* later down the road. If they have a problem with signing such a letter, I would be concerned, and always send as small of a deposit as possible via certified funds of some kind and via U.S. Post Office with Signature Confirmation. This will leave evidence of the transaction everywhere to help if you end up in court for some crazy reason.

Basically, protect yourself as much as possible and don't ever feel like you *have* to buy the car. Carfax reports are a used car buyer's best friend.

That being said, I DID get screwed trying to sell a car once. I was selling my Mustang race car (still trying), and listed it on Ebay. A guy started emailing with this and that, which was fine and then we progressed from emails to phone calls. I told him everything about the car from the inside out, but there's only so mcuh you can tell a person when it gets to a point where they just have to see it. He never did bid on the car, and waited for the auction to end before contacting me to purchase it. A lot of people do this when they are bargain shopping (watch out for these). Anyway, he contacted me and we agreed on a price and he was supposed to meet me halfway from my house to his for the transfer. Well, I requested a deposit and he kept coming up with reasons why he couldn't get to the bank, yada yada yada. Finally, the day before we were supposed to meet, he called and informed me that he got into a car wreck and couldn't drive, so he then asked if I would bring the car all the way to his house, which I very stupidly agreed to since I really wanted to sell the car and went through a week's worth of preparation. 1500 miles later, I arrived at his house only to be welcomed with a low ball offer, $2,500 less than we agreed on by the way. He basically wanted the brand new trailer for free and an additional $1,000 off the car. You see, his plan was to get me all the way to his house hoping that I would agree to this since I drove all that way, but I did not agree to it and demanded that he pay for my trip which totalled around $500. He wrote me a check and I went back home ready to kill somebody. So, I get home and bring the car back to my friend's shop where I keep it and then drive another hour to my dad's house to drop off my trailer where I keep *that* and then drive another hour to get back home to only find out that the check he wrote me, he stopped payment on. That's right, the -fill in the blank- stopped payment on the check. So here I am out of $500 for a VERY big lesson. That will be the last time I will ever deliver a car before they come to me to look at it and pay for it in full.

Sorry for the off topic story, but you should read this thoroughly and not make the same mistake I did. :nono

Thanks guys for the advice. So, I'm still waiting for the snow to thaw out so I could wash the car and grab some pics. In the interim, I've started working on the ad.

Never really sold a car before so I'd love some feedback .

Is it common to list the VIN number. Please check HERE to see my Work In Progress Ad.
