What am I doing wrong with Meguiar`s Last Detail Spray?

My new car has been detailed with Blackfire Wet Diamond and Blackfire Crystal Seal. About a week after washing (BF products had been on the car for 3-4 months and haven`t been reapplied,) I got caught in a little rain drizzle and figured it would be a good time to use Meguiar`s LDS (in garage with not too bright lighting) as the car appeared to be quite clean and I wanted to put a nice shine on it. Car was about 95% dry when I applied the LDS with a MF cloth. As I was putting the stuff on, I noted that there was smearing which I went over with another MF cloth. Figuring that the product needed to "dry out," I did the best I could and checked back the next morning (with garage door open for better lighting.) Some areas looked great, while others showed smears/smudges, which I again wiped out with a clean MF cloth. The only things that I think I may have done wrong was that I used too much product (eg, about 5-6 sprays for the hood,) cloths weren`t as clean as I thought, maybe the LSD isn`t comparable with the BF products??? Certainly would appreciate some guidance here, thanks.

two things come to mind

a. too much product
b. how dirty was the first micro after the first panel (car may be too dirty)

Car was hardly dirty, but I didn`t use multiple MFs. Used the same one, just turned over when I was seeing dirt.

Too much surface area and product for one towel. Try using more towels and dividing up the car into sections.

I think this is it. When was the last time the car was washed? Is it a daily driver? I`m going to guess if it had some mileage on it that a thin traffic film was actually on the vehicle especially around the lower panels. Think of the oil or coolant or gasoline or diesel thats on the roadways and gets kicked up in traffic. All it takes is a speck of oil to ruin a mf towel and QD session. A rinseless wash would`ve been better, then you could use the QD as a drying aid once the surface is clean.

Agree, many more MFs were called for and I`d rather spray the product on the panels than on the MF for a number of reasons. Not that I`d *EVER* do that sort of thing on a vehicle I cared about though...

Usually when I use my echosmart waterless wash to clean cars I`ll fold the towel to a new side after every swipe.

Wow, live and learn. I guess I`ve done several things wrong. Although I thought the car to be relatively clean, I guess it wasn`t clean enough for me not to use more towels; or for that matter, to think I could use the LDS without first having a really clean car. Thanks for your posts.

Flycaster- Sounds like you might`ve learned a few things from this thread :D Glad you asked about what might`ve gone haywire.

I to use the black fire set up like you have done, I have put over 17 coats of the b.f.wax on and I use the meg. ultimate detailer like yourself, the shine never ever comes out nice, my car is very very clean, and I go over it ever day with the detailer and I put a fresh wax on at least once a week, So after I wax the car looks ok or as b.f. says, whiplash effect, the day its waxed, but once I wipe it down the next day with the megs, its nice but looses a lot of its luster,, Cant figure it out either, I don`t think the chemist at meg, likes the chemist at b.f. lol...
