i wetsanded wth 1500 very lightly on and around a spot that a touched up, i then used polishing compound, then meguiars Scratch X followed by meguiars wax.... the surface still looks dull compared to the other surfaces on my car.... did i do something wrong... what can i do!??! :scared:

We'll need more info. Speculating some, I'd guess you did all this by hand. Either way, I'm surpised you describe the surface as being dull - usually what happens when sanding marks haven't been polished out sufficiently is that the surface is restored to normal gloss, though sanding lines/indentations are still apparent. But if you say the surface is still dull, then maybe you didn't even come close to getting the job done - or maybe you simply did not polish sufficienty to restore gloss after compounding. Too hard to tell - you are going to have to be a lot more specific before we can help you.

i used turtle wax polishing compound if that makes any diffrence. it just looks flat... instead of glossy like other surfaces

Stages goes like this 1500 and/or 2000 wetsand then wash clean then compound /w cutting pad then polish pad then wash clean then use Polish w/ cutting pad then polishing pad. I would suggest getting a PC for polishing.

Don't get discourage you have to work in stages. On wet sanding don’t wet sand the edges and tape the trim.

If you are doing clear coat be careful clear coat is real thin

I've seen where on new cars where one wetsanded it caused delamination or broke through a coat of clear. It would still shine but when you look at it in the right light you can see the distinction between what was sanded and what was not.

I would shy away from compounding and use a good polish, you might want to try going over the spot again with 2000 grit paper but a reasonablaly good polish should take out at least 15k grit marks.

How did you work the polish? By hand or with a machine?
