Wet Silver

I think I may have found a way to capture some of the wetness of my silver car. Let me know what you think...does it look wet?

I just used a Canon A620 and took the pic at sundown right after a P21S wash and Z-8 application.

I find the key to using a non-SLR camera on silver is to take the pics in low light. Even on a good Canon the bling of metallic paints tends to fool the chip into focusing slightly off and setting the exposure slightly off - usually either too dark or light.

Yeah, those captured the wetness very well and I appreciate how hard that is :xyxthumbs

Note that in the darker conditions much of the car/picture is more "medium gray" than what we usually think of as "silver"; this might have something to do with how it turned out. Funny how things can come out just right under certain conditions but not others. I still do best on silver if I do everything full-manual; haven't figured out how to get the auto functions to do stuff the way I expect every time.

Learning to use a new system is interesting and a bit of a challenge, huh?

Looks very nice!

I know exactly what you are referring to. I have the Canon A610 which is a great camera especially for the price.

I always finish up details either when it is too bright in front of the house or too dark as in 3am :)

One day I will get that perfect dusk lighting shot... one day :D

Shoot, I have problems getting silver to show up right on a SLR camera! I wish I tried a low light condition when I did a silver Buick Regal last month, I have a feeling the film will not turn out for those pictures as I had wished :(

Silver is very tough. I think "bracketing" exposures on an SLR may help...you know going up and down an f-stop in increments.

Yeah, while I'd like to be some perfect shooter, bracketing is smart, at least until you know how things're gonna turn out. Film is sorta the cheapest aspect of photography, and when you're shooting digital it's not an expense factor at all.

That's definitely a major bonus from digital...I have a 512 card and I can shoot 160 shots at the highest 7mp resolution...

Excellent! I share your frustration with trying to get silver to look its best. Lighting, angles, etc always seem to change the color as it shows up in the pics, or you just can't adequately capture the wetness.
