Wet sanding repaint

I was recently approched by a customer of mine to finish his car after it came out of the paint shop. As a request from both the body shop and the customer, they asked that I wet sand the entire car before I even touch it with the wheel. The request was unreasonable to me, and an arguement insued.



The question I have is why would a body shop suggest that an entire car be wet sanded, doesn't a panel to panel approach seem more reasonable? How many times have you polished a panel and had to go back and fix something that you missed the first time? Any opinions are appreciated.
 
What is actually wrong with it to cause it to need sanding? Also you say he asked you to finish the car, surely the bodyshop should have done this?
 
Yes, the body shop should finish thier work, but thier claim is that they are slammed with work as well as the fact that my customer wants to cut loose of the body shop as soon as possible. Against my advice he chose to go with this body shop instead of the one I suggested. Why he still seems to listen to the body shop's advice, above mine, is a mystery.



Now, on top of everything else, they are trying to tell me how to do my job, which is probably the most irritating aspect of the entire situation, I think i'm just going to dump the whole thing back in the body shop's lap, there's too much smoke and mirrors going on for my taste.
 
You would think a competent body shop would be proficient in wetsanding and buffing. After all, that is a part of the painting process. If the whole car needs to be wetsanded, that doesn't speak well of their basic painting technique, it must have horrible orange peel or something.

The guy didn't take your advice and went to a cheesy shop. Don't make his mistake your problem.
