My father in law is going into surgery for a quad bypass in about half an hour. Less than a month ago, he had two major heart attacks back-to back and his heart is at 30 percent functionality. My wife is the baby of the family and she is in near hysterics. Any well wishes would be appreciated, thanks.

My Dad had a Quintuple bypass in 2006. Nine years later , at the age of 90, still doing fine. Best wishes on the surgery and the rehab.

UPDATE: After 5 hours of surgery, he is now in recovery. Of the 4 blood vessels that needed bypassed, they could only do 3, because they couldn't find the last one, too much scar tissue. But the good news is that the 3 they did get to are the primary ones and the fourth is just a branch artery. We just left the hospital a few hours ago and the wife is sleeping, she didn't sleep very well last night as you can imagine. Thanks for all the prayers and well wishes and let's hope the rest of his recovery goes as well.

Hoping there has been some improvement with your Father-in-Laws condition since a few days ago.

Well, yes and no. His heart is working better than it was before the operation, BUT this morning at 6:00 he arrested and they had to perform CPR on him for three minutes and his lungs are filling with fluid. So they had to do a second operation so they could perform a "reverse dialysis" on him, where blood is taken from one leg and sent through a machine that oxygenates the blood and sends it back into the other leg. This serves to "dry out" his lungs and give his kidneys a jumpstart. He is also been intubated and a machine is breathing for him so his lungs can 'rest.' He is being completely sedated for a minimum of 48 hours to let the procedures work and to keep him from moving around and disturbing the processes.

Right now though he is more or less stable and the Drs have said that they have seen worse and that at this point thee is nothing wrong that can't be fixed, his kidney function is improving and his lungs are clearing. We should know more in a few days.

We will keep praying and hoping for his recovery.I know it rattles your nerves but think positive its amazing what doctors and modern medicine can do today.

He is in the best place for him. Now make sure your wife and family are getting rest and food, etc. (easier said than done)

Prayers are being sent! My father went through quad bypass and a aortic valve replacement. Its amazing what they can do! Stay strong!

Good luck, praying that everything does well. I just had major back surgery and I feel better now than I have in years. After surgery he will feel much better.
