Followed the directions to a tee, I etched the floor 3 times and the directions says 1 time, I also washed the floor many times with concrete cleaner. Today I went out on moved SS off the cardboard and the paint had already started to peel :( so This test Did not work. I didn’t spend to much on the test so I am not to upset…. The stain was Behr Concrete stain, in dark gray. I would NOT suggest it to anyone, not sure what my next test will be?

I really liked the look, it was a dull dark gray, so for now I put down some cheap tile to help the stain last a little longer, expect more tests on this, I want a goods looking floor that I can do myself for less than the cost of my limbs…

You said you followed the directions to a tee, "said to etch one time...I did three".



Not saying this was it...I would think etching 3 would be better than once...but maybe that was it.

I did the same thing and it came up......



Long story short I finally hired a pro to do it and it cost me big time!



I'll never do it again........



Use tile or just keep the concrete clean.
 
I would vote for tile on the rest of that floor.... it looks good IMO...



and if you want to have something between the tile and the cars, put a couple of the mats down like they sell at sams or lowes (both carry the same as I found out yesterday.)



that way you'd have the black/white checkered border with grey under the cars.
 
well I cant use the tiles on the hole floor, #1 when wet they are slick as ICE.. and #2 they will not hold up to me washing cars in the garage. I may have to wait till spring now, low temp for the next few days dips in to the 30's:eek:

Almost everything I have bought from Griots has lived up to its name, I like there stuff.

I Have The Griots In My Carport Which Is Obviously Exposed To Year round Weather. Its Holding Up Nicely!

My Parents Had Their Floor Professionaly Done In One Garage, Where Its Peeling Up, And Did The Griots In Another Garage Where Its Holding Up Nicely.

*thinks* -- Hey, I'm puttin up a carport in a week from this wednesday.... maybe...... (insert evil grin here) :D
 
I owe it to you guys.........



I'll expand about my experience. I have a very nice 2-car garage. Just over two years ago after I bought my brand new house and I went to Home Depot and bought their "garage floor epoxy paint". I did everyhting right, acid-etched the floor, clean, clean, clean, etc. I then painted it, and my damn tires pulled up the paint. After I threatened my local Home Depot of a serious lawsuit they finally gave in and paid me for their F_____ up paint. They gave me like $500.00 for everything and that included the paint, my personal time, etc.



I then looked in the yellow pages and interviewed some 10 pro paint guys to give me a bid on my garage floor. I went with the best guy I could find and the total would be about 1K including the paint. To make a long story short, the "pro painter" screwed it up twice and the third time got it right. He almost passed out painting the floor due to some kind of toxic odor. I'll never, ever paint any garage floor again! My next home I will personally design and I will have a state of the art four car garage BUT I WILL NOT PAINT THE FLOOR. I will probably leave it bare concrete as bad as it looks but just clean it every few days.



However, my garage floor looks GREAT. My buddies come over and they tell me "Ray, why don't you just eat off your garage floor?"



My advice is to just keep the bare cement clean or use those tiles or possibly buy a big industrial grade mat from Home Depot and lay it down on the cement. By-the-way, since my bad experience the manager of my local Home Depot told me the other day, "Ray, we no longer offer garage paint becuase of your terrible experience."

no one mentioned budgetary constraints.. but the best part is that its a one time deal.. if you move, you take it with you.. if you wash your car, the water goes thru and you can walk around and work on your car and not have to wait for the floor to dry or have to squeegee (sp?) the floor..

Personally, I have really thought about buying it for my garage due to these factors.. I doubt you would even have to get out the broom.. but you may have to use the grass blower on occasion..

well it was just a suggetion..

sorry you had such a bad experience.. I know others that have done this and love it.. one of the guys I worked with had his garage stained and man its great.. since my occupation requires moving every so often.. I am now more inclined to get the floor tiles in black and white for that finish line look..

Click on "Premium Car Care" then "accessories". Look at that car wash bucket and casters. They want about $40 for the set. What does Griot's want for a bucket w/casters, $500 or something??
